All The King’s Horses – Game of Thrones AU

Houses:

House Richardson sits on top of the iron throne. Hand of the King is Jean Audet.

House Prescott rules the jewels and mines. They are allies and trade partners with House Richardson.

House Fischer rules the water. They are a small house, who live in fear of the powerful Richardson-Wyatt union taking their lands and waters.

House O’Neal rules the forests. They are allies with House Fischer and supply wood to them. They are also small and fear the union of the Wyatt-Richardson houses will give them enough power to destroy their house. The princess, Amy, has been engaged to marry the youngest Fischer son Gracie since they were children. Once they are wed, their producing an heir will solidify the kingdoms union.

Due to the fear of House Prescott-Richardson conquering them, their marriage has been rushed. Amy O’Neal and Gracie Fischer will be wed within a few months. No one except the Fischer boys and Amy know that Gracie is actually gay.

House Hall rules the southern Isles. They are neutral in this conflict.

House Arkwright once ruled the North. Their house fell due to a war with House O’Neal. Their king passed on and their lands were taken. Rhett’s 11-year-old heir was to be crowned king, but the queen wed the king of House Hall to give their remaining people sanctuary and surrendered to House O’Neal. As per the terms of the peace treaty the Queen worked out, the northern survivors of the war traveled to the southern aisles, along with the queen and her son, relinquishing their lands to the O’Neals.

While the majority of the northerners reacted well to the move, Cliff Arkwright is not. He refused to take on the Hall name and instead bequeathed himself a Snow. The natives do not like Cliff because he resents their home openly; and few of the northerners who came to the south unhappily see him as a figure of revolution. Cliff claims that he will take the vows of the night watch someday, once he is old enough to make the journey alone.

King’s Landing is ruled by King Richardson, his queen, and their young heir, who’s just turned 19 and is going to take the throne over in a few years.

Initially, years ago, the Richardsons wanted Amy O’Neal to wed Chad. However when they found out that she was engaged to Gracie Fischer, they were offended, thinking that the O’Neals wanted to ally with the Fischers to attack them. The Prescott family then offered their daughter Wyatt for the marriage union, and the Richardsons accepted. They are to be wed sometime in the near future, and once wed, Chad will be crowned king.

There was a man who worked for the Prescott family, but betrayed them in favor of the Fischers. This man was caught and he and his wife were both killed. Their young daughter, a girl named Mallory, was taken into the Prescott family to be raised as young Wyatt’s handmaiden. She still holds the position.

Character Mini-bios. It’s possible not all of them will be used, but they may be alluded to.

Chad Richardson

Name: Chad Richardson
Age: 19
House: Richardson
Rank: Eldest son of the house/heir to the Iron Throne
Loyalties (in order of personal importance): Himself, his house
Important Info to the AU: Rather than his mother having abandoned him, she is the Queen, who has emotionally manipulated and abused him for years. She is conniving and enjoys Wyatt quite a lot – much more than Amy and she is glad that Wyatt is to be her daughter-in-law. King Richardson is well respected, intelligent, and a good militarist, but the key event planner and socializer is Queen Richardson.

Chad is a very spoiled prince. He never had to wait for anything in his life and always gets what he wants. He expects people to do what he wants with little concern over their preferences. Once, when he was young, he had a playmate who was a nobleman’s son. They got into a squabble and Chad complained, feigning that he’d bene thrown to the ground in the park. It was over something dumb but because of ‘insolence’, Queen Richardson got the boy and his family thrown away for treachery. The only thing Chad cared for afterwards was that he no longer had a playmate. The boy was quickly replaced. Chad has never wondered where the other boy is and doesn’t even remember his name; as long as he had a playmate, he’s happy. He is not above throwing others to the guillotine to get what he wants – in fact, this is a regular occurrence.

Jean Audet

Name: Jean Audet
Age: 57
House: Allied to House Richardson

Loyalties (in order of personal importance): House Richardson
Important info the AU: Jean's been living in Richardson lands his whole life and is actually cousins with the Queen. His relationship to the royal family has earned him many perks. Jean is known as a generous soul, who often donates to the poor and likes to volunteer his time in soup kitchens. He has not heard or seen from his son in years, and does not know whether he is alive or dead. He lives with his wife in King's landing but their relationship is doomed; she blames him for their son running away and he feels indescribable guilt over it. Jean is a very smart, militaristic man and has helped King Richardson in his conquests on several occasions.

Amy O’Neal

Name: Amelia “Amy” O’Neal
Age: 19
House: O’Neal
Rank: Eldest daughter of the house
Loyalties (in order of personal importance): Her family, the Fischers.
Important info the AU: She is best friends with Gracie, and though they are to be wed, she knows he is gay and encourages him to find the pleasures of men. Though she does encourage this, she fears that come their wedding night he won’t be able to find pleasure with her and they will not be able to produce an heir, which is what both of their families desperately need. Also, the fact that she will have to marry a man who is not at all aroused by her stings though she tries not to let it show.

Arthur Summers

Name: Sir. Arthur Summers
Age: 19
House: He’s not from a royal house, but pledged loyalty to the Prescotts. Originally, he lived as a peasant under house Arkwright.
Rank: Knight
Loyalties (in order of personal importance): His family, House Prescott. He holds respect for House Hall and Queen Hall, but is not sworn to them.
Important info the AU: Arthur grew up poor, being raised by his sister. He witnessed the judgements that people held for Susan, raising a small child on her own. He was taught by her to read, write, and understand the layout of the kingdoms. He found a special interest in politics and took to researching himself with his deceased father’s scrolls, keeping up with the gossip of the time. Because he was educated, Arthur could see the fall of House Arkwright long before it actually fell, (they had a faltering political party, new king with a hot head, and unmotivated army) something that only few others picked up on. When he became 12, he started to train to become a knight. Susan was not happy but Kasper, her fiancée, was the one who taught Arthur how to wield a sword and how to fight as his squire. The war worsened and when Arthur was 16, Kasper was slain in battle. Susan was devastated but Arthur didn’t stop training. Foreseeing the inevitable, Arthur looked into the states of the kingdoms and heard of the union between House Prescott and House Richardson. Together, those three kingdoms could conquer the remaining Houses once Arkwright fell, he was sure. So he proved himself to the Prescott House and swore loyalty to them, bringing his sister and her daughter as servants. As much as he hated reducing Susan and Adelaide to that status, by making sure they were allies with the most powerful union in the Seven kingdoms, he could ensure they’d survive and then when he gets enough influence, to be one of few knights stationed in the countryside of Prescott land and take Susan and Adelaide with him. Currently he resides in a small complex for knights and Susan and Adelaide live in a servant house near the castle.

Susan Summers

Name: Susan Summers
Age: 32
House: She is loyal to the Prescotts, but was once a peasant under House Arkwright.
Rank: Servant
Loyalties (in order of personal importance): Her family, House Prescott
Important info the AU: Susan was born up in the north, under King Arkwright (senior). She and her parents were loyal and respectful to him. But tensions were rising with House O’Neal. Susan lost her parents when she was 18 and she had to raise her brother alone, resulting in people who did not know her assuming she had a son out of wedlock and casting her aside. She had always wanted to teach but no one would let a harlot near their children, so instead she just taught her brother all she knew herself – she taught him how to read, write, and the history of the kingdoms. She soon fell in love with a knight, Sir. Kasper, who was pledged to the newly crowned King Arkwright (junior). The two of them were engaged to be married when the conflict with the O’Neals turned into a war. Kasper lost his life protecting King Arkwright. Susan was devastated, especially when she found out she was pregnant. The war waged on for a long while. By the time the Arkwrights fell, no one was surprised. The kingdom was very weak.

When her brother pledged to become a knight Susan felt extreme anxiety, and still does: she does not want to lose him the same way she lost Kasper. She grew increasingly anxious when Arthur swore loyalty to House Prescott and was knighted. She moved to King’s Landing with her brother, and became a servant of the Prescotts. She was not very well liked upon her arrival, being social and a jitterbug bearing the dark hair commonly associated with the northerners. She was popular among staff but not with the Prescotts. She has Adelaide and is currently training her how to be a servant, too. It is expected by the kingdom that Adelaide will potentially become the handmaiden of Wyatt and Chad’s first daughter, like Mal is to Wyatt, because she is the youngest servant girl. Still, they are not particularly fond of Susan or Adelaide and will gladly find someone else if they need to.

Todd Bennett

Name: Todd Bennett
Age: 19
House: He lives in Fischer lands
Rank: The son of a cook
Loyalties (in order of personal importance): House Fischer
Important info the AU: Todd works in the kitchen of the Fischer house. He is bisexual but has never explored (or been allowed to explore) any instances with men. He does not know that Gracie Fischer is attracted to him – though he’s always found the young lord attractive himself. He is very friendly with Amy, but strictly on a formal level.

He has been set up by his parents for many marriage interviews but they always fall through. More often than not, it’s that Todd’s parents are not wealthy and have no dowry to give any young girl’s family. They want their son to be wed soon because they want to avoid any potential scandals. They also want their son to marry up higher in class to live a little better of a life. A matchmaker, Gavin, is the one introducing him to girls.

Cliff Arkwright

Name: Heathcliff ‘Cliff’ Snow
Age: 16
House: He lives, technically, as a prince in House Hall. However his distaste for the kingdom is evident and most in the Southern Isles don’t like him. He calls himself a Snow, because he refuses to take the Hall name and as House Arkwright has fallen, he can no longer keep that name.
Rank: Prince through marriage
Loyalties (in order of personal importance): House Arkwright, The Night’s Watch (desire)
Important info the AU: Cliff is furious at his mother for moving to the Southern Isles instead of crowning him king and letting him fight. Though that would have been sending Cliff into death, he doesn’t care because he feels like he failed his father in letting the family name fail. He refused to take on the Hall name and, when he was told he would not be allowed to continue the Arkwright name, he took the name Snow. He wants to join the Night’s Watch if he can’t keep his kingdom alive. He does not agree with his mother’s belief that as long as they are alive they still carry on the name and wants to do his father proud by pledging his life to the Wall. He believes nothing will ever happen in House Hall to put his mother in danger.

He does not know that his intolerance at being a part of House Hall has spread seeds of discord among the Northerners who traveled South after the fall of House Arkwright, and those still truly loyal to House Arkwright see Cliff as a revolutionary.

Shyanne Volle

Name: Shyanne Volle
Age: 16
House: Her family is loyal to House Hall.
Rank: Nobleman's daughter.
Loyalties (in order of personal importance): House Hall
Important info the AU: Shyanne is the youngest daughter of house Volle. Her older brother is a knight sworn to the castle. She was raised to be very spoiled and have a big thirst for money. When the Queen and her son came over, Shyanne's mother convinced her to try to pursue his hand. Since he was not the heir, he would likely not be arranged a marriage but he would still live a life of luxury. Shyanne is hoping to win Cliff over and marry him, and then move herself up the social latter. She and her family are friends with the Halls and her father is one of the king's advisers, so they often come to formal parties and events. Each time she tries (and usually fails) to woo Cliff. Shyanne wants to be rich, that's her end goal.

Daphne La’Rochevoucault

Name: Daphne
Age: 17
House: She is a nomad
Rank: A traveling performer
Loyalties (in order of personal importance): None
Important info the AU: Daphne is from across the sea. She and her parents traveled over but her parents died on the journey. Orphaned, Daphne had nowhere to go. She eventually fell in love with a traveling circus and slipped into their routine. They did not notice her for three days, until someone wondered what she did. They almost kicked her out until, in a pit of desperation, Daphne exhibited her dancing skills. They were impressed and allowed her to travel with them as both an acrobat and a dancer. She has been traveling with them since she was 8 years old and they are now her family.

Princess Wyatt Prescott
Name: Wyatt Prescott

Rank: Only true heir to the Prescott House, eldest and only daughter of Sebastian and Helena Prescott
Loyalties: Herself, power, her house
Important Info to the AU: Being the only heir to the Prescott House, Wyatt grew up extremely privileged and spoiled. She always knew how to work a situation to get just what she wanted and, if she didn’t, she would throw a tantrum and get it anyway. It was no secret Sebastian Prescott had a wandering eye which his beautiful wife pretended to ignore while he frequented the local brothel. One of these affairs led to a child Luis. Of course a king having a bastard child was nothing knew but the queen was furious, especially because the child was a boy (something she could not give the King herself). She threatened to have the boy killed if Sebastian even thought of claiming him as his own. So Sebastian banished the boy and his mother and last he heard the boy joined the Night’s Watch. Luis knows nothing of who his true father is.

Since Wyatt is the only true heir, it put Sebastian and Helena in a very difficult situation. A woman was not suitable to lead a house on her own so they had to marry her quickly. As soon as they caught wind the O’Neal’s had rejected the Richardson’s proposal to marry their daughter the Prescott’s jumped at the chance. The Richardson’s had claim of the iron throne and if they married off their daughter then their grandchildren would one day be sitting on the iron throne. Wyatt agreed right away, her need for power and adoration fueling her desire of the union. She is a manipulative and ruthless princess who will do anything to get her way, even if it means ordering someone killed. It is also no secret within her house she likes to sleep around but her parents pay quite a bit to keep those rumors from spreading around.

Handmaiden Mallory
Name: Mallory
Age: 17
House: Prescott
Rank: Handmaiden to Wyatt Prescott
Loyalties: House Prescott (even though it is forced), her virtue, literature
Important Info to the AU: Mallory was born to Bethany and Maxwell Prescott, her father the head of the House Prescott king’s guard. Her father, unhappy with the merciless ruling, sided with the House Fischer and fed them information about where the armies were moving and where the House was weakest. He was found and convicted of his treason and both he and his wife were killed for his crime; however, they did have mercy on their baby and took Mallory in to be raised as the handmaiden to Princess Wyatt. She has the signature red hair which is known to identify members of the house of Prescott but is not treated with the same respect as a Prescott. Her association with the house has been stripped from her, and she is constantly reminded of the fate she could have had if the Prescott’s hadn’t taken pity on her. Mallory has become the shadow of Princess Wyatt, following her everywhere and tending to her every need. She absolutely hates her duties but knows she has no other choice but to comply. If she wanted she could reach out to help from the Fischer’s but she knows if she is found she would be convicted of treason and have the same fate as her mother and father.

Prince Grayson Fischer
Name: Grayson (Gracie) Fischer
Age: 18
House: Fischer
Rank: Youngest son of House Fischer
Loyalties: his house, his friends, and now House O’Neal
Important Info to the AU: The House Fischer is filled with only sons which means unless his other four brothers die Gracie really doesn’t have a chance at inheriting his house; however, since most of his brothers have not shown much interest he might one day rule (especially if he can produce an heir before his brothers). The problem is he shows no interest in women and his family knows it. There are nights when he goes out and seeks the company of other men which his parents have constantly covered for him. Ever since he was a baby he’d been promised to another, to Amy O’Neal in order to create a union between their houses.
He’d met his young bride many times and became very close to her but it only ever felt platonic. Gracie loves Amy and cares about her deeply but he knows he cannot provide her what she needs. As the pressing matters of their engagement approach he grows more and more wary. He does not know if he will be able to produce an heir which means he is trying to think of how he can remedy the situation and make both his parents and his wife-to-be happy.

Prince Oliver Fischer
Name: Oliver Fischer

Rank: Third eldest son of the House Fischer, also apprentice to the House healer
Loyalties: his house, those in need, House O’Neal
Important Info to the AU: Oliver never showed interest in the crown or fighting, he always wanted to be the one to heal and not hurt. His father didn’t take to well to this and sent him off to fight anyway. He received combat training from age 15-20 before finally coming back home to pursue his true interests. He made nice with the house healer and was taken under his wing. Oliver still goes into combat but this time armed with medical supplies and not a sword. When he heard of his brother’s upcoming wedding he returned to the castle to support him.

Queen Natalie Hall
Name: Natalie Hall (previously Natalie Arkwright)

Loyalties: her house, her son, the survivors of the House Arkwright
Important Info to the AU: Natalie grew up in the Arkwright house as the daughter of the man who taught the young lords combat. She enjoyed watching her father teach the boys as she worked on her embroidery, one boy in particular catching her eye. Rhett, the heir to the House of Arkwright, was never very fond of her and found her annoying but after her father was slain he took pity on her. The two grew extremely close and married when they were very young and years later Rhett took his place as king. They had one child together, a boy named Heathcliff. Natalie adored her family and was known throughout their land as the kindest queen in the lands. Unfortunately their rule ended when her husband was slain in battle with the O’Neal’s. With Rhett gone it left Cliff as the rightful heir to the throne but he was only 11 at the time and Natalie knew he would be slain if he tried to lay his claim to their land. She received word from house Hall that the new king was in need of a bride so in order to ensure her people’s and her son’s safety she accepted the offer and traveled south to marry King Hall. Together they have young daughter but Natalie is crushed her son has grown distant. She has heard he plans to join the Night’s Watch and is trying to get him to reconsider.

Businessman Westley Coxx
Name: Westley Coxx
Age: 28
House: He is not part of any house but lives in the lands ruled by the Richardson’s
Rank: Brothel owner
Loyalties: His workers, money, sex, and sometimes the House Richardson
Important Info to the AU: Westley has always been good with the ladies and with money, so it was no surprise when he decided to run his own brothel. He is very protective of the women who work for him and they also double as spies for him since the noblemen just love leaking secrets to a naked woman. His business has provided him with access to the highest nobles in society which gives him a fair amount of prestige.

Lady Pippa
Name: Pippa Snow
Age: 15
House: Born into the House Arkwright, now lives in the castle of the House Hall
Rank: She was born with the birthright of a princess but since the Arkwright House fell she has been given the title of Lady Pippa.
Loyalties: Heathcliff, House Arkwright, her aunt Natalie, House Hall
Important Info to the AU: When she was born her father and her mother were unmarried and her mother died giving birth to her. Not wanting to completely abandon the child but also not wanting to lay claim to an infant who’d killed its mother he allowed her to live within the castle. She grew up alongside her cousin Cliff and the two grew as close as any siblings would. Pippa’s father ended up dying in battle along with her uncle Rhett. Natalie took Pippa into her care from that moment on and they moved to the South where Nat married King John. Before anyone Pippa is loyal to her cousin and has been with him through everything. She knows of his plans to join the Night’s Watch and if he leaves she has every intent to go with him.

Executioner Lucian
Name: Lucian Livingston

Important Info to the AU: Lucian has always had a fascination with blood and murder. When he found out he could actually make a living out of what he was good at he jumped at the chance. One of his best customers is Princess Wyatt herself.

Wildling Maxine
Name: Maxine

Rank: Thief, plunderer, whatever you want to call her
Loyalties: herself, other wildlings
Important Info to the AU: Maxine grew up outside the wall and has never cared of castles or kings. She lives for adventure and is constantly on the move with her group of wildlings. In her group she is known as one of the most vicious but she has also bedded pretty much everyone in the group as well. If it came down to it she would leave her group behind to save herself.

Squire Noah
Name: Noah Wilson

Loyalties: House Hall, Cliff and Pippa
Important Info to the AU: Noah grew up in a peasant village under the rule of the House Hall. From the time he saw the King’s army parading through the streets of town he knew he wanted to be a knight. His parents laughed at the idea because poor boys did not become knights; however, when he was twelve years old a few nobles came to address the poverty situation of the village. At the start of a riot an unruly villager began to attack and Noah pushed one of the young nobles out of the way. At the sight of the boy’s bravery one of the knights offered Noah a position as his squire with the promise he would teach the boy to become a knight one day. He moved to the castle where he served under the rather famous knight. It was here he met Cliff shortly after he moved in. Not knowing he was a rightful king, he treated him no different than anyone else. He has become very close with Cliff and the boy’s cousin Pippa.

Prince Cooper Summers-Richardson
Name: Cooper, also known as Coop
Other information: Cooper is the son of Mallory and King Chad Richardson. Through his youth he had no idea who is real father was and was raised believing Arthur Summers was his biological father. To keep his true identity hidden, his blonde hair is dyed black to decrease suspicion. The pictures provided show him as a baby, child, and as an adult.

Location: The Castle in King’s Landing, the party room.
Weather: Cool, clear skies, with the moon shining overhead.
Event: Chad and Wyatt’s engagement party. The hall is crowded with Prescotts, Richardsons, and their allies and friends.

The hall was already full of people, and Chad stood on top of the stairs with his father, the king. King Richardson had his hands clasped behind his back as he observed the chattering and twirling invited guests with a wide and happy smile on his face. Chad, in contrast, had either hand resting on the railing and looked bored, kicking his right heel with his left foot. His lips were drawn up into a pout. The golden crown that signified his princely status almost blended in with his neatly combed, blond hair.

”Daddy, I’m bored.” Chad whined. He watched as a particularly attractive girl twirled on the dance floor, his eyes admiring her thin waist.

”Stand up straight, don’t lean on the banister.” King Richardson said, glancing for the first time over at his young son. When Chad stood up straight, the King and his son were the same height, give or take an inch. Chad mimicked his father’s pose and breathed through his nose, eyes half lidded and bored. He caught the sight of one girl who he’d had the pleasure of bedding a few nights ago and a boyish grin snaked across his face. He really wanted to go dance with her – perhaps get a round two. His father followed his gaze, caught the grin, and said nothing. However a smirk did appear on King Richardson’s face as he leaned down to whisper in Chad’s ear.

”This is ball is to announce your engagement. If you’re going to take another woman to bed, do so on another night.” The King said, patting Chad on the back. Chad whined, something about it not being fair, but his mouth quickly zipped when he caught sight of a woman striding towards the grand staircases base. Her long hair reached her rear, and was plaited all the way down. The gorgeous crown of the Queen stood out on top of her head, its golden color contrasting with the darkness of her hair.

She gestured up towards the King and Chad, and the King nudged his sun towards the stairs.

”That’s our cue.” He said. Chad decided he had nothing better to do than to get this over with. Everyone was supposed to be down at the bottom, looking up to see the gorgeous bride-to-be when she entered. Chad was to escort her down, and the couple would be officially announced by the King. The people down at the bottom of the stairs stopped dancing and stood around in hushed whispers. Before he descended the stairs himself, King Richardson clapped Chad on the shoulder.

”Never conquered.” He said.

”Always feared.” Chad completed their House motto. King Richardson laughed and repeated the phrase as he joined his wife at the bottom of the stairs. Chad watched his father go down, the boyish grin still on his face. He stood proud and attractive, waiting for his bride, not at all made uncomfortable by everyone staring at him. He hoped his bride was hot.

Amongst the throng of people down below was Lord Jean Audet, his wife at his side. The two were dressed for the occasion, he in a regal jacket and pants and she in a long, modest dress with a tight corset around her waist. Lady Audet was looking up at Prince Chad with an indescribable look on her face. Jean didn’t need to be told what she was thinking of – when she saw Chad, she often thought of their runaway son, who’d eloped with a whore who’d ran away from the brothel. They would be close in age now – their son was only a few years older than the prince.

”Prince Chad looks nice today.” Jean said, gesturing to the top he was wearing. It was a deep maroon color, accented with gold the same shade as his hair. ”You can tell he’s a true-blooded Richardson. That crown looks like it’s attached to his hair, it’s the perfect shade of gold!”

”Yes.” His wife replied, curtly, her eyes downcast at the décor of one of the tables. Jean knew attempted at conversation were futile, so he merely sighed and walked over to the king’s side, joining him in waiting for the Prescott girl. He was greeted with a grin and a handshake, and a brief debriefing on what Lord Prescott had said earlier that say when he’d spoken to him.

A trio of redheaded women was gathered at the door just outside the epitome of the grand staircase. Anyone with knowledge of the kingdoms would easily be able to tell these were Prescott women just by the vibrant red hue of their hair. While two of them chatted frantically in hushed tones the other remained quiet and adjusted the gold and silver crown adorning the princess’s head. The women and their company had traveled for weeks to reach the land of the Richardson’s all for the engagement party of their princess Wyatt to the Richardson heir.

Princess Wyatt stood proudly, her shoulders back and her head held high. This marriage would make her one of the most well-known women throughout the lands. One day it would be her son sitting on the iron throne, and it was a privilege she once only dreamed of accomplishing. She’d heard stories of Prince Chad’s stunning good looks which only added to the already wonderful deal struck by her parents. In all honest he could have been the ugliest eyesore in all the land and she wouldn’t mind. All that mattered to her was his power. To be associated with so much power opened countless doors for her.

”Move, girl! You’ve made a mess of my daughter’s curls!” Queen Helena stated, quickly brushing her daughter’s handmaiden to the side. Mallory remained silent and stepped backward, folding her hands together in front of her. The queen took a long look at her daughter as she repositioned her bouncing red curls which spilled from the crown on her head. Even at her age Helena was quite the beauty but no match for her vibrant young girl. She cupped Wyatt’s chin in her hand and smiled at her. “You’ll make a fine bride, my jewel,” she murmured.

Wyatt beamed, taking her mother’s compliment with pride even though she already damn well knew she’d make the perfect bride. She would make sure the Prince’s eyes would linger nowhere else as long as she was around and already began taking those steps today. The gown she decided to wear was quite revealing, a dress of lace and jewels which covered her more private parts but otherwise was quite revealing. Had she not been a princess it may have been immodest to wear but her title made the dress more extravagant than shameful. She wanted to make damn sure that no one would remember the house of O’Neal after this! How dare they even want such a sham of a nation joined with theirs? Obviously the House Prescott was the one with the riches who could keep their house funded until the end of all nations!

She turned toward the doors where she would make her entrance before abruptly turning back around to face her handmaiden. ”You, go with my mother. I can’t have you ruining my grand entrance,” Wyatt stated in a clipped tone before turning back around. She never had been very civil with her handmaiden, after all, she was much lower class than her.

Mallory nodded silently in understanding as she stood in silent irritation. The princess always treated her like she was dull. Then again she did not know her handmaiden managed to figure out how to read through bribery of some of the others living in the castle. By now she was accustomed to it and chose to remain quiet and submissive. It was much easier to be a shadow. Besides, Princess Wyatt’s rage was not unknown and she knew what the young lady could do to her if she spoke out.

Helena gave her daughter a quick embrace before turning away and heading down the hallway. Mallory quickly followed after the queen until they reached where everyone else gathered to watch the entrance. Since the king had to remain in their land attending to affairs, Queen Helena approached the King and Queen Richardson to watch their children descend while Mallory obediently remained a respectable distance behind.

”How exciting is this? Our children’s first meeting,” Queen Helena murmured in a hushed tone to her daughter’s future in-laws. Her eyes moved to the Prince standing at the top of the stairs. He really was as handsome as the people said he was! Oh, her Wyatt would be so happy. Proudly looked up the stairs she waited patiently for her daughter to make her entrance.

Wyatt straightened her shoulders and waited a few moments to make sure everyone was focused on the door to see her walk in. When she felt like an adequate amount of time had passed she nodded at the guards posted at the door and they opened them for her. The first thing her eyes beheld was her husband-to-be, a very striking gold-haired boy. She put on her best charming smile and moved forward to greet him. Her eyes casually looked past him to see the large crowd of people staring up at her. Wyatt would do all in her power to make sure they adored her; however, adoration was nothing without a little fear.

”Prince Chad, it’s a pleasure to finally meet you,” Wyatt gushed, dipping into a curtsy before staring up flirtatiously into the young royal’s eyes.

Chad was back to being bored on top of the stairs. Wyatt had not arrived yet and everyone was staring up at him, so he had to act regal and not bored. He stood straight, zoning out by observing the guards on either end of the door. They did not acknowledge him at all, though he did whisper to one, ”is she here yet?” The guard merely nodded, and Chad went back to standing in position.

When the doors finally opened, everyone was still looking in anticipation. Chad craned his neck behind the guard to see Wyatt enter the room, and his jaw opened at her dress. It was gorgeous and so thin, so see through, that it caused quite the stir in the audience. However scandalous the dress might have been it was designed so that it fit her well, covered her, but also added a flair of sexiness to her that no one else in the room had.

Chad was no longer bored. He stared at her, awestruck for a comical moment, before he cleared his throat and approached Wyatt. He took her hand in his.

”Lady Wyatt, it is a pleasure to meet you.” He said, kissing her hand before he took her arm under his, and stood straight out at the crowd. He was staring, however, at Wyatt’s see-through cleavage… though to many in the audience it looked like he was lovingly gazing down at her.

”Now may I present to the good people, the crown Prince Chad and his fiancée, Lady Wyatt Prescott.” The court announcer said. The room filled with clapping. Chad leaned towards Wyatt, with a grin on his face.

”You are absolutely gorgeous, has anyone ever told you that?” Chad asked, in a hushed tone.

King Richardson glanced over at Lady Prescott, chivalrously giving her hand a kiss.

”Lady Prescott! What an honor it is to see you again. Chad is certainly very excited to meet his bride-to-be. He was impatiently asking about her earlier.” He said. He did not notice, nor care, to witness the handmaiden behind Lady Prescott. She faded into the background, like the rest of the servants milling about the room. They were keeping the food stocked, the décor up, and the place tidy. The Richardson’s would not stand for a filthy floor. Especially when they were here to impress the Prescotts – not that they wouldn’t be impressed by the iron throne – but if they were acquiring a bride from the family, they had to show off the extreme order they kept their castle in.

The Queen and the Hand of the King both gave the Prescotts greetings of equal friendliness, as they turned towards the stairs where Princess Wyatt had just entered. The Richardsons had equally shocked looks at her choice in gown, but when it completely took Chad’s attention away, the Queen smiled. She could see the ploy here, and she very much admired the young Lady’s bravery. She was a gorgeous woman and looked beautiful with Chad. She had not only captured his attention, but everyone else’s. And, to Queen Richardson’s pleasure, he looked completely interested in her not the random girls of varying social classes scattered amongst the hall.

’That dress is very gorgeous. Very… unique.” The Queen said, giving Lady Prescott a smile. ”Who was it that told her to wear it?”

Wyatt could feel the eyes of the crowd below glued onto her. Her dress certainly commanded their attention which was exactly what she’d hoped. An added bonus was it also appeared to keep Prince Chad occupied as well. She’d heard rumors about his wandering eye and made it her mission to crush those mutterings under her high-heeled foot. Even if it meant being one of those obnoxiously clingy women she would do anything to make sure her fiancé didn’t stray. The last thing she needed was some bastard child of his walking around when it was her children who would be sitting on the Iron Throne one day. If that happened she sure as hell wouldn’t be as kind as her mother and father were with Luis. She would execute the bastard straight away. There would be no dirtying their bloodline while she was around.

Her eyes searched Chad’s as she kept a poised smile on her face. His reaction only validated her already inflamed ego. Of course he was speechless! She was pretty much the fairest young lady in all the lands, and if she was not the prettiest her wealth certainly made up for it. Her gaze briefly flitted down to her hand as Chad took it in his before bestowing a kiss upon it. Wyatt feigned innocence with a giggle and pretended not to notice the adoring looks of the people below.

”I’ve heard stories of your handsome appearance, but they do not do you justice, Prince Chad,” Wyatt gushed, her eyes dipping to follow his gaze to her chest. Her smile changed to a smirk when she realized where he was looking. So, the rumors were true. Well, he could look all he wanted and later she would remind him she was all his.

As the court announcer presented both her and her husband-to-be she looked out toward the crowd it a proud smile on her face. One day she would rule all of these people and they would call her their Queen. It was quite the exhilarating feeling! Of course she’d been adored by her own people but being tied to the one on the Iron Throne was the biggest honor. Her name would go down in history. Of course Chad’s would as well but she was far more concerned about herself.

Wyatt glanced up at Chad when she heard him whisper to her. She smiled up at him as they began their descent down the grand staircase. ”Only a handful of times, but coming from you I consider it a great honor,” she murmured in response. Of course it was an utter lie. She’d been complimented daily for her looks by her parents, by her abundance of lovers, and she knew of her own beauty; however, she knew most royals wanted a pure and modest bride.

Helena smiled politely at the King and curtsied before him.

”It is lovely to see you again as well, your Majesty. My dear Sebastian would have loved to be here today for this momentous occasion, but he had other affairs to attend to at home,” she explained as she gave her condolences on her husband’s behalf. It pained him he was unable to attend his daughter’s engagement party but Sebastian did not like to leave his duties attended by anyone else but him. Her attention then immediately switched to the Queen who inquired about Wyatt’s dress.

At the mention Helena smiled before glancing toward her daughter. ”Oh, she insisted on it herself! The little dear watched over the seamstress for weeks and had the gown redone at least three times before she felt it was perfect for meeting the Prince,” she explained with a smile.

Meanwhile Mallory stood behind the royals with her arms clasped together behind her back. Her head inclined upward she watched as her princess met the Prince to the Iron Throne. She tuned out the chatter between the Richardson’s and Helena, doing her best to keep her composure without looking displeased. All these talk of luxuries made her sick when all she had to her name was a few dingy frocks and a lifetime of servitude. Her father had been a well-respected man, perhaps if he hadn’t been a traitor she would have been a lady-in-waiting to Wyatt and not a lowly handmaiden. No, she couldn’t blame her father especially when she completely understood why he would betray a family as selfish and menacing as the Prescott’s.

Mallory observed as Wyatt smiled at the golden-haired Prince, no doubt feeding him ridiculous lines and acting like the epitome of righteousness. She knew better, she saw the malicious side of the princess others rarely saw.

”You flatter me, I like that.” Chad said, leading his bride-to-be down the staircase. He pulled away from Wyatt for a moment to look around at the crowd, their clapping and proud faces filling his ego. There was nothing Chad loved more than to please others as well as himself – having all of these people so proud of him for securing such a wonderful bride was exhilarating. He caught the gaze of his father, who gave him an approving nod, clapping his hands together. To Chad his father’s clapping was louder than the whole room.

At her response to his whisper, Chad grinned.

”Only a handful? I’m shocked! I’ll have to execute anyone who doesn’t call you beautiful! At least, executing them is what father says to do when people aren’t loyal. My future Queen has to be told she is beautiful, whenever she wants!” Chad responded, oblivious to any lying behind Wyatt’s words. He was surprised that Wyatt didn’t have a million suitors waiting for her! Of course he knew he was the best but to not be showered in compliments? He could pay people to compliment her! That was a nice thing for a fiancé to do for his bride… right? He thought about it perhaps a bit too seriously.

King Richardson dismissed Lady Prescott’s apologies with a wave of his hand, understanding fully the duties that could not be entrusted to anyone but the Lord of the house himself. He looked up at Chad and Wyatt, pleased at how beautiful they looked and how enamored Chad looked. Even if it was only temporary, as long as the public saw this, behind closed doors his son could be as unfaithful as he wished. He nodded at his son once, not having any input towards the conversation his wife was having, instead making idle chat with the Hand.

Queen Richardson listened to Helena’s story with interest. She admired the fine details of the gown again, wondering how long it must have taken for three drafts of it to exist. It was a wonderful finished product.

”Your daughter’s dedication to my son impresses me.” She said, eager for the two to reach the ground so that she could talk to the young woman. She had heard stories of Wyatt, but meeting her in person, she seemed more like a suitable match for her idiot son than she had anticipated.

”Well, it is a woman’s job to please her man, and I intend to please you, my Prince,” Wyatt replied with a slightly smirk. She said the words innocently but knew he would most likely take them in a sexual manner which was her hidden intention. Wow, it was easier than she thought it would be to impress the Crown Prince. This would make things so much nicer for her when they were finally married. He would be as easy to manipulate as a ball of clay. All she would have to do is mess with that gorgeous head of his and she would be indirectly ruling the entire nation.

Wyatt glanced up at Chad and rested her hand gently on his bicep as they neared the bottom of the staircase. She noticed the King give a nod of approval and knew she was in. If she had the King’s approval she could get it from anyone else she desired. Men were so easy to please, woman on the other hand had their own motives. Hopefully the Queen wouldn’t give her too many problems.

At the mention of executing anyone who wouldn’t call her beautiful, Wyatt giggled though secretly the idea excited her. If he was willing to kill others just for not admiring her beauty she could only guess what she could get him to do for something much more severe than that. Lucian better start polishing his blades now! ”That is very kind of you. I consider it a great privilege to one day be your wife,” she replied, still very much stroking his obviously already very large ego. Her eyes moved toward her mother and the Richardson’s, purposely avoiding the eyes of Mallory, before glancing up at Chad. ”Shall we?” she inquired.

Helena beamed when the Queen admitted her daughter impressed her. Wyatt certainly knew how to work a room which even impressed her mother because she had not even given her any tips. ”Well, she was so overjoyed at the acceptance of the proposal. She wanted to make sure everything was perfect for this day,” she explained, her smile widening when she saw the young couple making their way over toward them.

Mallory remained stoic though her eyes briefly wandered around the grand room to take in the environment. It was easy to tell the guests from the servants simply by the expression on their faces without even seeing their clothes. There was a solemn expression most servants had, one that was unmistakable to a fellow servant. She straightened up when she saw Wyatt looking her way on the off-chance she would see her and chastise her on her poor posture. Of course her eyes went right past her but Mallory kept her poised stance.

At her euphemism, Chad’s contained, civil grin stretched into a more natural, sneaky one. His eyes bounced away from her gorgeous face down to her cleavage again. She could please him all she wanted, and he would have no objections. Unfortunately he knew his father would be angry if he tried to bed her before their wedding night – something about sanctity or whatever – but the wait might be worth it.

”The privilege is all mine. You’ll be a wonderful bride.” Chad said, though rather than thinking of a long term courtship, he was really picturing the night of, and any night after. He hoped that when an heir was born that didn’t change her figure. Oh well – if that were to happen, Lord Coxx’s brothel had plenty of gorgeous women to choose from! But that was far, far off in the future.

The Queen smirked and leaned over towards Lady Prescott, watching how her son’s eyes didn’t trail from Wyatt’s assets for very long. He’d look around the room briefly, or at her face, but his eyes would always become a little more downcast, his gaze a little hungrier.

”Of course, I don’t blame her. I remember my engagement party, after all.” She said. Years ago, it had been she entering these doors in a gorgeous gown. At that time, her family had bene trying to impress the Richardson’s as a whole, so they’d dressed her in the house colors. The royal family appreciated that gesture and she had wooed her betrothed with a bit more effort than just a revealing dress. But if one could pull such a dress off -- and it took a very special woman to do so – why not eliminate some of that work?

Chad led Wyatt over towards the parents, with a wide grin on his face. He bowed to his parents, and Wyatt’s parents. Queen Richardson turned around towards Mallory, who she seemed to just notice. She gave the handmaiden a dark, venomous glare, as though she was furious the girl was doing nothing.

”Is she not supposed to be watching the dress’ train? It’s so intricately made – I would be devastated if it ripped.” She asked Lady Prescott, though her dark eyes were fixated on Mallory. She then turned around to the couple approaching them.

”Oh, you do look ravishing together, don’t you?” She said.

Wyatt watched Chad’s gaze quickly fall back to her chest when she mentioned pleasing him. He was making this far too easy for her; it almost made her a little sad she wouldn’t have much of a challenge. Judging by the rumors about the Prince’s tendency to sleep around she doubted he would be very faithful up until their wedding day. She had one of two ways to play this game and was not sure which move to make. On one hand she could feign ignorance and wait to bed him until the day of their wedding or she could sleep with him beforehand so he knew she was not worth cheating on. Her decision would just have to wait until she figured out how things around here operated.

”Why, thank you. If I dare say we’ll be the most attractive couple in all the lands,” Wyatt commented with a smile as she looked up at him. The look could have easily been mistaken for adoration but in her head all she could think about was how they would also be the most powerful couple in all the land.

Helena glanced over at the Queen before looking back to their children who appeared to be hitting it off well. They would make a very attractive bunch of grandchildren, that was for sure! She chuckled when the Queen mentioned her own engagement party which made the woman dwell on her own. ”Well, we all aim to impress our men, Helena replied, her smile growing as both Chad and Wyatt approached. Her happy demeanor instantly changed when the Queen made a comment about Wyatt’s handmaiden. She’d almost forgot the little mouse was still among them!

Mallory could feel her blood run ice cold when the Queen turned her penetrating gaze at her. Her eyes immediately dropped to look at the ground because to look at royal (especially one with as high a standing as Queen Richardson’s) in the eyes was disrespectful. Something about the woman made her extremely uncomfortable. She felt the same kind of fear she usually had in Wyatt’s presence which made her very uneasy.

Narrowing her eyes at the child, Helena scoffed and waved a hand at Mallory. “Well? You heard the Queen, girl! Do your duties!” Helena snapped.
”Yes, I’m sorry, your Majesty,” Mallory replied timidly, glancing up at the Queen before she quickly skirted past to pick up the train of Wyatt’s intricate dress.

Helena rolled her eyes as she watched the mousey little girl attend to the princess. ”It’s so difficult to find good help these days. I swear, that one is as dim as they come,” she apologized to the Queen before clapping her hands together happily as Chad and Wyatt approached them.

Wyatt put on her most charming smile when she was finally face to face with King and Queen Richardson. ”Oh, thank you, your Majesty! It is a pleasure to meet you both. I’ve only heard of the extravagance of your estate…it is simply gorgeous,” she commented.

Chad laughed at Wyatt’s comment, having to agree. Not only would they be the most attractive couple, but they’d be the strongest couple. He might be goofy, and an idiot at times, but there was one thing Chad would not lose, and that was the Iron throne. He was not oblivious to the other powers that might want to secure it. There were conflicts with House O’Neal. They had taken down House Arkwright, and once they gathered their forces together and merged with House Fischer, who was to stop them from vying for the throne themselves? If that time came Chad had to have the best armies, the best court, the best wife, and of course the best heir.

”Hello, father.” Chad bowed to the king, who bowed back. He was oblivious to his mother’s giggling conversation about impressing men with Lady Prescott – what did he care for such conversation, unless he was being impressed? The Queen gave her son a smile. Chad caught the smile and his own grew in size. His mother was rarely happy with him – it was something he cherished. The Queen turned back to Lady Prescott.

”I do understand, but here at King’s Landing, we rarely have such problems.” She said, rather dismissively, not even bothering to say anything in response to Mallory. The girl didn’t matter, not to the queen. She only mattered if she wasn’t doing her job. Queen Richardson had a zero tolerance policy on those under her rule. Servants were never in the way, or untimely. If they were they were quickly fired, sent off to the streets with nothing but the clothes on their back. The Queen stood confidently, her jewels glittering in the light. She eyed Mallory warily. She did not want a handmaiden becoming a problem. She supposed, since right now was such a happy occasion, she would let it go.

When Wyatt spoke to her, the Queen smiled charmingly.

”Why thank you, Lady Wyatt. I am pleased to meet you, as well. Meeting the fiancée of my son is something I only get to experience once in my lifetime, after all.” She said. Her tone was light but the words she chose had significant meaning: if she did not like Wyatt, she could have easily broken the engagement up or been on the market for a new woman. ”Many of our jewels come from your land, Lady Wyatt. So I must complement your family on harvesting them.”

Wyatt smiled at Chad’s laugh and gently stroked his arm. Considering him already won over she knew her focus now had to switch to his parents. Even though the Prince obviously had some say in who he would marry she was aware the choice ultimately came down to his parents. With the O’Neal’s and Fischer’s joining their nations it seemed like a no-brainer they should unite with the Prescott’s, especially when their choices were pretty limited. Either way she still had to make certain the King and Queen liked her. The time for ass-kissing was nigh, luckily she was well seasoned.

She overheard the Queen talking to her mother about problems and stiffened before glancing back at her handmaiden. No doubt she had done something foolish! Stupid girl. Wyatt quickly drew her attention back to the royals in her midst and smiled happily. Image was everything with this crowd.

Helena forced herself to keep her smile at the Queen’s comment. That stupid handmaiden was making a horrible impression for them! She could even do her job and now the King and Queen were probably questioning their character. She would have to be scolded for that later. And to think they’d saved the worthless girl from death and this is how she repaid them. ”I assure you she shan’t be a problem. I’ll handle the matter personally,” Helena assured the Queen with a small smile. Quick to sweep this conversation under the rug she turned to face Prince Chad and her daughter.

Wyatt studied the Queen’s face and maintained her sweet smile. Although the Queen did have a rather intimidating demeanor she saw something respectable and comforting in it. It was a poise that matched her own. ”Why, yes, of course, and I hope this experience is all you’ve hoped for, my Queen. Your son is very charming, I’m quite taken by him,” she complimented. At the mention of the jewels from her homeland she smiled. ”Thank you, your Majesty. We take pride in our abundant harvest of jewels and, if I may speak freely, it would be an honor to share our bounty with House Richardson.” There it was, the flashing of money. Since the Queen brought up the subject it gave her the perfect opportunity to remind the Queen when their house would be inheriting if they joined together.

Mallory remained behind Wyatt, holding up the tail of her dress. She could feel the Queen’s eyes staring daggers at her but made a conscious effort to avoid her gaze. This woman was the last person she wanted to upset and it appeared she was already on the Queen’s radar. Given the close proximity she could hear the conversation and knew Wyatt was already weaving her twisted web. She wondered how enamored the Prince would be with her if he knew how many people Wyatt bedded. Keeping her eyes forward and trained on Wyatt as she was supposed to she listened and hoped she would drift back into invisibility.

”Of course, I expect that the handmaiden of my son’s betrothed will be well-behaved.” The Queen agreed. She glanced behind Wyatt, at the handmaiden, again. She looked pretty… almost too pretty for a lowly handmaiden. She knew her son, how he worked… perhaps it would be best to chop off her hair and have her worse somewhere else. She knew, with the right words, she could get what she wanted. She supposed she’d just wait to see if she became a problem.

She turned to Wyatt with a smile.

”Oh he seems quite taken by you. The event is lovely, it’s meeting all of my expectations.” She said. The mention of sharing the bounty made the Queen smile wider. The jewels of House Prescott were phenomenal – she didn’t know what he husband was thinking, asking the O’Neals for their daughter before they asked for the Prescotts. She supposed it was to quell the O’Neals from waging war against them, but they’d be fools to strike now. Especially since there was a merger happening right now.

”I am pleased by this – of course, upon your union, House Prescott is more than welcome to any of House Richardson’s goods. As well as our unstoppable army.” She said, ”I aspire for ours to be the most powerful and feared kingdom in the realm.”

Chad glanced between his mother and Wyatt… not entirely sure he liked them when they got along.

Wyatt caught the tail-end of the conversation having to do with her handmaiden and casually glanced over her shoulder with an icy glare. If she messed any of this up for her then she would just have to send the mousey handmaiden to Lucian. He would have fun with a little shy one like her. Since her mother already assured the Queen the servant would be of no trouble Wyatt just let the conversation go. If it came down to either losing the House Richardson or losing her handmaiden she would throw Mallory away in the blink of an eye. Yes, the girl had been loyal to her for her entire pathetic existence, but that meant nothing when it came to the rulers of the Iron Throne.

Her smile brightened when the Queen mentioned the event was meeting all her expectations. Hah, take that O’Neals! Wyatt glanced up at Chad when his mother mentioned how he appeared to be taken with her, gently stroking the side of his arm lovingly. ”That pleases me very much, your Majesty, he’ll make a fine King one day,” she commented with an extra sweet smile. Yes, a fine King with an even better Queen at his side. He could go around screwing anything he wanted but in the end it would be her who had the power which also meant the power to execute any little whores he impregnated.

”Oh, yes! I’ve heard wonderful things about your army. Just your motto instills fear into the hearts of people. ‘Never Conquered, Always Feared’, such strong words,” Wyatt stated firmly with a small nod of her head. She wondered if the Prince ever fought armies for his land.

Helena smiled proudly as her daughter did her job at wooing the Queen. She never understood where this talent of hers came from.

Mallory remained silently behind Wyatt, making sure not to draw any more attention to herself. She’d already made quite the fool out of herself and now she could sense the Queen keeping a cautious eye out for her. As she listened to Wyatt speak she couldn’t help but admire how eloquent she was; however, it was all for show and she knew it. All these words were just to butter up the royal family. Adding the Richardson house motto, that was a smart one. Well played Lady Wyatt. Mallory took a deep breath and resisted the urge to roll her eyes.

”I’m sure he loves to hear that. And of course, our motto reigns true. I have the highest hopes for my son when he takes over the throne. He has already proven himself to lead armies extremely well. Isn’t that right, Chad?” The Queen said, giving a bow to Chad. He grinned charmingly, standing up a little straighter. He looked at Wyatt, with a full ego. Her compliments to the house motto only increased that.

”Of course, we’re extremely powerful! I’m second-in-command only to my father. I’ve been on the front lines a few times, on patrols, I know the land like the back of my hand. I have to, if I’m going to rule it all.” he said. He looked down at Wyatt, noticing her eyes for the first time. They were a very enticing shade of brown, with green around the edges. ”If we are going to be married, I should probably patrol Prescott land as well. You could show me – we could go on a ride together!”

The Queen quirked her brow at Chad’s enthusiasm. Normally not one to show any interest in other lands, he was probably only saying so to demonstrate his horse riding skills. Chad turned around to look behind them, looking completely past Mallory, his eyes lingering on a young man who he knew from other parties. He wanted to socialize but knew he was not allowed to until the King and Queen dismissed him.

Wyatt grinned when the Queen mentioned Chad led the armies before. She knew there were some Kings out there too cowardly to go out on the battlefield but a husband with bravery was to be greatly admired. The more victories he won the more their image improved and, since a woman was a reflection of her man, she couldn’t be happier. Of course with him on the battlefield there was always the chance of him being slain in which case she could play the part of the sad widow before usurping power. Then again she would need to make sure they had an heir before that happened. Ah, the painful details. Now to mention she didn’t even like children!

”That is very impressive, my Prince,” Wyatt cooed, staring up at him fondly with a look of awe on her face. She smiled when he mentioned going on a ride together to get a look at the lay of the lands. ”Oh, that would be just wonderful! However, I’m not the best at riding, you may have to show me,” she replied. It was yet another lie. She loved to ride so much so she even had her handmaiden taught since the girl couldn’t keep up running alongside her as she rode; however, she knew it greatly improved a man’s ego by teaching their ‘delicate women’ how to do something.

Looking at Chad she noticed he was looking off toward other people. She paused for a moment before looking at the Queen. ”It appears the Prince grows tired of this conversation though I do wish to continue it at a later time. Would you excuse us to do some socializing, your Majesty?” Wyatt inquired politely.

Mallory froze when she saw the Prince turn his head and look back at her but then…he really wasn’t looking at her. He almost appeared to be looking right through her! She should have figured as much being a handmaiden. Relaxing once more, she took a deep breath. She didn’t see what all the fuss was about Prince Chad. Sure he was handsome but only in the traditional sense.

Queen Richardson observed Wyatt and Chad as she buttered him up, giving her husband an approving look beside her. King Richardson caught the look and nodded, a natural smile on his face. Chad looked flattered, as he should have been by Wyatt’s words. Oblivious to her actual skill at acting ignorant, Chad believed that she had no idea what she was doing.

”Oh, I understand. My son has quite the wandering attention span.” The Queen said. She wondered if Wyatt would be able to control it. The unspoken implication that Wyatt should try to keep him in line was behind her words. Meanwhile, all Chad heard was that he was off the hook and so he grinned at Wyatt, noticing for the first time how shiny her lips were. He wondered if they tasted any good. He hoped so – he’d be marrying that mouth, after all!

”I’ll introduce you to my friends. And show you around the castle. It’s your first time here, right?” He asked, ignoring the handmaiden behind Wyatt completely. The Queen eyed the girl again, watching her carefully. She hoped the maiden knew how to keep her distance and not make a nuisance of herself – but still be ready if Wyatt needed her. Before they were gone, the Queen whispered, ”If you decide a new handmaiden is needed, I have several well trained girls for the job.” The whisper was audible to the others, but the upper class brushed it off as white noise.

Wyatt studied the Queen when she explained her son had wandering attention. She understood the implication and simply gave a small nod and polite smile. Oh, she would certainly be keeping his attention where it belonged. As his Queen it would be her duty to make sure he stayed on task and had eyes for only her. Obviously there were many beautiful girls in his land but she would make damn sure it was her bed he ended up in. She had a feeling she would work well with the Queen, if only her own mother were as good of a role model. Sure, Helena could be demanding at times but she was much more about the glitz and glam than power.

”I’ll do my best to keep his attention, your Majesty,” she replied innocently though in truth she was extremely serious about her words. Looking up at Chad lovingly she stroked his forearm and nodded in agreement about meeting his friends and seeing the castle. ”That would be wonderful, my Prince,” Wyatt cooed.

Mallory’s stomach churned uneasily at the sight of the façade her princess put on. She actually felt a little bad for the prince. The poor guy didn’t know what he was up for. Then she caught the words of the Queen which made her heart sink in her chest. One little slip up and the woman was already offering a replacement! Mallory did not even want to think what would become of her if she was released from her duties. Even though she despised her job it was much better than having no place anywhere. She pretended not to hear it and looked obediently forward, waiting to follow her lady.

Wyatt smiled at the Queen’s offer before casting a threatening look over her shoulder at her handmaiden. It always thrilled her to keep the girl on her toes and remind her how lucky she was. ”I appreciate your offer. Sadly this mouse has been my shadow since she was just a babe; however, I may take you up on it if she is not to your standards,” she replied before looking back up to Chad. ”Shall we?”

Chad grinned at Wyatt and led her through the crowd. The sounds of people surrounded them, various partygoers mingling among each other. Everyone’s eyes were on the royal couple as they walked by, their faces fixed with cordial smiles and their mouth uttering words of congratulations. Since these people weren’t really important Chad just smiled them off, and glanced back over at his betrothed. It was as though with every movement, he got to see more of her skin than before. It was just a trick of the light and the fabric, but it definitely kept Chad’s eyes from wandering over to the other girls – most specifically the young woman he’d been eyeing earlier from previous affairs, who was watching the royal couple with a faux smile but really seething.

Clearly, the Queen to be was going to be holding Chad’s gaze… at least most of the time. Many of the young woman in the Richardson kingdom had bene hoping she’d be ugly, so Chad could make them a mistress and give them hush money to keep the current Queen happy and oblivious to the affairs. A few of the servants and Prescott knights around spared glances at the poor handmaiden, but didn’t allow their gazes to linger in case they gave her too much attention.

”Would you like to dance with me, Lady Wyatt?” Chad asked. Oh, what he wouldn’t give for a chance to be close to her, to feel her body against his. Dancing, when done right, could be very scandalous. Besides, though he wanted to talk to his friends, he wanted t sow off how gorgeous his fiancée looked with him first!

The Queen smirked over at Helen.

”Oh that’s quite all right. We’ll see how this goes.” She said, eyeing the young couple. Chad was completely captivated, and though she couldn’t keep her guard down, she thought this was a good sign. At least until they produced a reliable heir… he couldn’t afford to get involved with other women.

Wyatt enjoyed the sensation of all eyes being on her. She could see the crowd whispering to one another and could only guess what they were saying. Whether it was bad or not any publicity was good publicity. When it came to it she would be known for being a good Queen or the most ruthless the land ever saw, there would be no in between. No mediocre royal was ever remembered. Wyatt wanted her name to be known but it was up to the people whether she would be known for her grace or her malicious one. Since Chad did not appear to be taking much time to thank his people she decided to take the opportunity to reach out. After all, a ruler was nothing without having supporters. She graciously nodded and thanked others for their kind words, even when they tripped on their words like imbeciles.

Along with the eyes of the people she could also feel the eyes of the Prince on her, eyeing up like his prey. She feigned innocence and casually puffed her chest out. He could look as much as he wanted as long as his eyes were on no one else. When Chad looked to her to ask her to dance Wyatt looked up at him and broke out into a smile. ”It would be my honor, Prince Chad,” Wyatt replied before casting a pointed glance over her shoulder.

Mallory had been obediently following after Wyatt and the Prince, keeping hold of the train of her lady’s dress. It was miraculous how not a single royal even noticed her present. Of course, she was used to it by now, but it still perplexed her how someone could purposely ignore another. The only eyes she could feel on her were that of the other servants and the Knights from the Prescott kingdom. At least they could sympathize with her. When Chad asked Wyatt to dance she didn’t even need the reminding glance from Wyatt to know she had to step aside. Mallory gently placed the train down, folding her hands in front of her and took a step back. As a handmaiden one had to know when they were needed and when they should step aside and it would be painfully awkward for Mal to hold Wyatt’s train as she danced.

Helena nodded in agreement before watching their children as they paraded around and greeted their guests. It was quite the sight to see her beautiful little girl with such a handsome prince! ”They make quite the fetching couple, don’t they? I trust they’ll make beautiful grandchildren,” she commented with a proud smile as she looked over at the Queen.

Wyatt’s kind words to the royal subjects made up for Chad’s complete disinterest in everyone. She was a lot like his mother, moreso than Chad could have ever thought in that pea brain of his – she was working the crowd, getting favor as she simultaneously seduced the attention of the king-to-be. When Chad saw a few of the men eyeing Wyatt up themselves he moved closer to her, almost like he was claiming her. And he pretty much was. This whole ball was to show off to the entire kingdom that he was engaged.

The music became lively again, and people took to the dance floor. Chad grinned when Wyatt accepted his offer and, without a backwards glance at the handmaiden who had slipped out of the way, he led Wyatt towards the floor. His hand found her hip as he held the other, grinning down with her with the boyish charm that won many of the maidens of the city into his bedchambers.

”So, Lady Wyatt, have you ever been to King’s Landing before?” Chad asked, pulling her body close to his.

The hand of the king and the king himself were off to the side, having left the ladies of the court to talk amongst themselves. They were laughing and joking about nothing in particular, politics and the song choice and whatnot.

Jean looked over at the young handmaiden off to the side, and pulled one of the servers aside, telling them to go and offer the girl a drink. She did so, offering some water to Mal. At the king’s confusion, Jean laughed good-naturedly.

”There’s no point in staff if they’re not hydrated, My Lord! I haven’t seen the girl drink anything all evening. Now that your son and Lady Wyatt are dancing, she’s got some time to herself.”

”Oh, yes they do. I’ve always been such a fan of the Prescott family hair. Such a gorgeous shade of red…” Like a rose, or like the blood staining a battlefield. A subtle way of thinking, but with the queen as a vibrant redhead, imagine the image that would give to people! A mighty king, dressed in armor with dashing blond hair and blue eyes, followed by the mane of red. She hoped if there was a son, he would be blond, and if a daughter, a redhead. ”I look forward to my grandchildren already. After all, that’s the most fun part of being a queen – seeing what the heir gives you one day. Our success is best defined by our children’s accomplishments, after all.”

The people here reminded her very much of her own people, then again most people looked the same to her. They were all pawns in a game and one she intended on winning. All she had to do was gain their favor which unfortunately for her meant playing nice. Her own mother didn’t even know her plans, that woman was just excited for the extravagant wedding. She never understood why her mother never embraced her power or kept her father in line. There would be no bastards under her watch, not like her savage half-brother Luis. Thank goodness she never had the misfortune of meeting him!

Wyatt paused for a moment to take one more look around. The amount of male attention she had was quite stunning, and the gentlemen here were very handsome! It was too bad if she bedded one of them they would probably squeal on her. She was best off keeping it inside her own House where they had loyalty to her. She followed Chad to the dance floor with a warm smile on her face. When he hand rested on her hip she looked up at him and beamed, her hand quickly finding his shoulder before the other one clasped into the Prince’s hand. Damn, as oblivious as the boy was his smile was quite intoxicating!

”I have once but-,” Wyatt began, her words cutting momentarily as he pulled her close to him. The sensation of her body pressed against his was rather invigorating. She wondered if he was good in bed. Having to deal with a bad sex partner for the rest of her life would be a real tragedy. ”But I was very young at the time and hardly remember. It is a beautiful land. I would love it if you showed me all its glory,” she continued.

Mallory stayed off to the side remaining stiff of well-poised. The last thing she wanted to do was humiliate herself again in front of all these royals. She had a bad feeling if she got on the Queen’s bad side things would not end up well for her. Instead she watched as her lady and the Prince twirled around the dance floor. Dancing always interested her because she could never understand how one could be so graceful. She never learned to dance, handmaidens didn’t’ dance. It looked fun, like gliding.

Her attention was quickly taken from the dancing when a servant girl offered her a glass of water. Although the gesture was very kind she did not understand how her, a lowly handmaiden, was being offered something to drink. None of the other servants were being offered water. It didn’t seem fair and furthermore she did not want to misstep her boundaries. If Wyatt saw her standing around with water or, heaven forbid, the Queen did she couldn’t imagine they’d take it well.

”Oh, yes, it is lovely…until you try to find a color for dresses that will compliment it well!” Helena teased with good nature before laughing. Of course everything was about presentation for her so color compliments were a big deal. She thought for a moment about what an heir produced by her daughter and the Prince might look like. Either way the precious child would be spoiled and adored by both lands! ”Too true, your Majesty! she replied with a smile.

”Only once! Well you’re going to live here soon! You’ll have to be shown around the land… through the fields and the hills. They’re really gorgeous.” Just like him! Damn, Wyatt sure was lucky, to be marrying someone as great as him. As their bodies pressed together, Chad was faced with an urge to take her somewhere more private, to kiss her and put his hands all over her and inside that dress. It looked awfully complicated to be in… and as wonderful as it looked on her he was certain it would look better on his chamber floor, with her in his bed.

”And there’s also a lot of nooks and crannies you’ll be able to appreciate more now that you’re older.” Chad said casually, gently leading Wyatt around the floor with all the skill he’d leaned for years and years as a prince.

Jean sighed with a small smile on his face as Mallory politely declaimed the water. He knew she probably did it to avoid getting into trouble with the Queen. The Queen… Jean looked over at her gorgeous self, giggling with Helena. She was powerful. So powerful Jean had to tread very carefully that she didn’t get suspicious of any strings he tried to pull. Unlike the RIchardsons, Jean was empathetic to the wait staff. Part of it was that he imagined somewhere, in some far away kingdom, his son was probably a servant to a lord. He expected that if he treated servants with kindness, his son would be rewarded.

It was a selfish goal, but either way, it certainly worked out in the servants favor to have him cutting breaks for them. Jean walked over towards Mal’s side, watching as the young betrothed couple danced on the floor. They were too engrossed in each other to notice much around them… at least, that was how it seemed to Jean.

”I don’t blame you. I heard how the Queen spoke. I am Jean Audet, the hand of the king. It’s my pleasure to welcome you, and all of the Prescotts, to King’s Landing.” He gestured towards the various knights who had been invited to the ball as well. He gave Mal a well-meaning smile.

”Oh! You are right on that account. Well, gold goes with everything. Doesn’t it?” She asked, ”Oh, have you noticed? Her hair is red. Chad’s hair is blonde. It’s almost as though they’re our house colors, already.”

Yes, and one day she too would rule these lands. She didn’t care if they were pretty as long as they were hers. This is where she belonged, in a position of power where her son would sit upon the Iron Throne. And if anything happened to befall Prince Chad after an heir was sired? Well, that would just be a pity. Luckily he wasn’t the brightest which meant he could probably stay alive longer than if he were a cunning man. ”I would be honored if you could show me the lands, my Prince…any excuse to spend more time in your company,” Wyatt murmured with a meek smile as she stared up at him through her thick lashes. She was very aware how closely they were pressed to one another and it appeared to be working to her advantage. His attention had yet to stray from her. The dress had been a success at captivating the Prince’s attention.

”Secret hiding places? My, that does seem interesting. I bet there are plenty of places you know about where no one else knows about,” Wyatt commented, something scandalous underlying her words. She giggled girlishly before as she followed his lead.

Once the servant left her Mallory went back to watching her lady and Prince Chad glide around the dance floor. They both looked so….happy. Then again who wouldn’t be happy when they were as rich and powerful as they were? Again the thought crossed her mind she could have had a similar life. She pressed her lips together and kept vigilant, taking in everything while focusing on Wyatt. It all came as part of the job, watching everything while at the same time keeping a close eye on her lady. A handmaiden had to know when she was needed and when to disappear into the crowd like a ghost. For now she played the role of ghost and refrained from drawing attention to herself.

Unfortunately it appeared she wasn’t completely invisible because soon a man stopped at her side and when he introduced himself she found herself curtsying graciously before him. She glanced up at him only for a moment then looked away to show her respects. ”I very much appreciate your hospitality, good Sir,” Mallory responded before straightening up.

She had no clue why the hand of the king was speaking to her but her heart drummed wildly in her chest. He was being so kind which was far different from how any royal treated her.

Helena smiled fondly at the at the sudden realization. ”My, you are most right, your Majesty. I say this is a match well made,” she gushed.

”If you ever want to be in my company, my lady, all you have to do is ask for it. I’ll be more than happy to oblige… whenever you desire.” He spoke with a husk to his voice, glad that his bride to be wasn’t some shy type that his mother had said he would likely be paired with. Wyatt seemed just as keen to reciprocate his flirtations as he was to give them out. A blushing bride would be, admittedly, somewhat fun to entertain initially but in the long run he’d have to persuade her to do this, and that, and this and that… he wondered what Wyatt’s limits were, where she’d draw them… and what she’d let him get away with.

He twirled Wyatt and pulled her back into him, moving along to the beat, her girlish giggle bringing his charming smile back into place.

”I know of many places, my lady, if you’d let me take you to them.” He said.

”Of course, it’s not a problem. We have to accept everyone here after all – when our prince weds your princess, of course you will be moving in. We’ll be seeing a lot more of one another then!” He stood up straight and observed the heir and heiress as they twirled around, looking so happy and wealthy. He caught the eyes of a few servants looking over. He wondered what thoughts must really be going through their heads! Oh, but that wasn’t his business.

”What is your name, handmaiden?” He asked. The queen had never introduced her to him – she just kind of existed in the background, holding Wyatt’s train.

”Of course! I look forward to seeing their wedding. I’ve already begun thinking about it, you know? Of course we have plenty in the budget to cover necessary costs. The feast, the ceremony, the gowns and suit for my son… everything. The rose patio is a perfect place to hold a wedding, don’t you think? That was where I got married, after all. It is the best.” The Queen said. As she watched Wyatt and Chad dance on the floor, she remembered back to her wedding day. She’d danced with the king and become the queen. She felt all eyes on her but she was gorgeous and she knew it. She thrived in it. Throughout her pregnancy she’d kept herself attractive – her king had rarely strayed, prioritizing himself with the army.

She wondered if Wyatt would be so lucky – if Chad’s interest in females would lessen and his interest in the army would grow.

A satisfied smile stretched across Wyatt’s lips when the prince responded so beautifully to her flirtations. It was risky to put yourself out there as a woman, especially when their virtue was so often questioned. Luckily Prince Chad appeared to be more than receptive to her advances. She as far from being considered a virgin but she would play the role for him. Certainly he would believe she only had eyes for him and she came on so strong only because she was to be his betrothed. He would not find out about the others she’d bedded, she would make sure of that. ”Soon I’ll be forever in your company, my Prince, for eternity…till death do we part,” she replied as she moved her hand from his shoulder to gently caress his cheek. She smiled fondly before placing her hand back into position. ”And I intend to keep you very happy in all our years in any way you desire,” Wyatt added, really playing up the obedient role this time. Of course once she had the crown of a queen on her head all these pleasantries would lessen.

Wyatt smiled to herself as she twirled gracefully before being pulled back to Chad, keeping their bodies close together. His charming smile was enough to mystify a nation. It would be easy for him to win followers.

”I would be honored if you were to show me such splendors,” she replied in a whisper.

Mallory listened intently to the words of the hand of the king. She made sure as to not look him directly in the eye just as she’d been taught. It was not acceptable for someone as lowly as her to look upon a highborn as an equal would. The Hand’s words perplexed her. He was being so….kind and admirable. He greeted her with an heir of equality much unlike the Queen had done or any other noble here for that matter. Yes, there were highborns who played a role and acted nice to servants but Sir Jean actually sounded like he meant it. Could he really be hoping they would see more of each other? The thought made her shiver slightly. She’d heard horror stories of handmaidens being taken advantage of by men of the castle. But then again this man did not seem the type to do something so horrible. ”I do so look forward to making your acquaintance again, Sir,” she replied with a gracious dip of her head.

When he asked her name she paused. Of course she had a name but it was rare she was called by it. Even Wyatt preferred to call her ‘girl’ rather than use her given name. ”Mallory, m’lord. My name is Mallory,” she introduced herself. Most times when introducing oneself it would be followed by the name of parentage along with your house but she’d lost that credibility long ago.

Helena beamed at the mention of the wedding, having dreamed about its extravagance from the time they received work the Richardsons had accepted their proposal. She lived for event like this, the finer the better. Having only one daughter she was determined to make this a momentous occasion. ”Oh, yes, that sounds absolutely lovely, my Queen! The roses as red as my daughters hair and beneath the son as golden as your son’s locks. I shall have the finest of jewels sent for from out lands so that the atmosphere of the wedding will sparkle,” Helena gushed as she clasped her hands together, ”I shall spare no expense for the marriage of my only sweet daughter to your honorable son.” And she meant every word! The Prescott’s could lose all their riches and it would not matter to her as long as the wedding was an absolute success.

”Oooh. How romantic.” Chad said, though her words filled him with glee. This gorgeous, sexy girl was all his. No other man in the seven kingdoms could have her. Well, if he did, Chad’s have him executed. And then his kingdom would be perfect! His mother was obsessed with the idea of an heir but Chad was more interested in the process involved in making one – and Wyatt seemed like she’d make that fun. When she said she was going to keep him happy in any way he wanted Chad felt a tug in his stomach. He wanted nothing more than to take her to the back and shag her there, make her his, and test that theory of her keeping him happy whenever he wanted.

Though he knew they’d be followed. And though he wanted to shag her he knew his mother wouldn’t approve of it happening so soon. He’d just have to wait until they were alone.

”Then I’ll have to show you.” He said, pulling her closer so their foreheads were touching. The song had ended but he didn’t care. He only seemed to notice it as he looked into her eyes, and then laughed. ”Can I get you any refreshments? You must be tired from dancing.”

Jean smiled at Mallory, oblivious to her thoughts.

”Ah, Mallory, it is a pleasure to meet you. If you have any questions about King’s Landing, just let me know. I know many things about these lands. Like the locations that the Richardsons would not like you present in. And, of course, the areas they’d love to show off to you.” He said. ”I must warn you. The Queen is notorious for her strict regimen among the staff. Keep her happy, and your time in King’s Landing will be wonderful. Make her unhappy, and you will be miserable, I can guarantee.”

”Oh, I would love to see jewels present at the wedding! Tell me, Lady Prescott, are you planning to embroider her gown with jewels? That is a sight I would love to see. I don’t know how any dress can measure up to that one she is in now – though somehow I don’t doubt your daughter will impress me.”

Queen Richardson made a wave with her hand and a servant approached, bowed to her, and offered her a glass of water. The Queen took it and sipped daintily, her eyes scanning over the room, bouncing on the servants present. A smile came across her face when she saw everyone in their places.

Wyatt smiled sweetly up at her prince. A small victory it was to keep his attention for the night but it would soon be her duty to keep that attention for a lifetime. Her words seemed to stroke his ego well enough which made her content. All she needed to do until their wedding was keep him happy and attentive then she would sire an heir as quickly as she could. There would be no bastards born to the king on her watch. And if there was? Well, certainly she would not be as compassionate as her mother was with her father’s bastard. Soon she would rule all the lands beside Chad but she never had much for patience. If it came down to taking out the current king to get her prince to the throne she was not against a little bit of poison accidently finding its way into her future father-in-law’s drink.

While evil thoughts cycled around her head she kept a smile on her face. No one would guess the sweet beauty had such vicious intentions. Women were said to be weak, especially highborn women who lived in luxury. Women with status slept in silk sheets and grew fat with their privileges yet so easily they fell when a man decided they were of no more use. She would not be one of those weak women. Wyatt controlled her own fate.

”If it please you, your highness,” Wyatt whispered as she gazed up into Chad’s eyes. Her smile widened and she closed her eyes briefly to draw in the Prince’s scent. She only opened her eyes when she heard his faint laugh. ”Yes, that would be lovely,” she replied, glancing back in search of her handmaiden.

Mallory listened obediently to the advice the Hand gave her. She had no doubt in his words after already encountering the Queen for herself. It would be like walking on eggshells with her. Even though he showed her nothing but kindness the handmaiden was rather suspect as to why he treated her so nicely. Had he wanted something from her? It was so rare she was shown even a hint of compassion. ”Thank you, m’lord Hand. I am most gracious for your counsel. I will be certain to heed your advice,” Mallory replied with a respectful dip of her head.

When she looked up to check on her lady and the prince she noticed they had stopped dancing which was her cue to check in. Not wanting to keep her lady waiting in fear of being yelled at again, she turned toward Jean and curtsied before him. ”I apologize, good sir, but I must take my leave now. I look forward to seeing you again,” she dismissed herself softly before picking up her skirts and hustling over to where Wyatt and Chad stood.

”M’lady, may I be of service?” Mallory inquired, her voice soft and submissive.

Wyatt barely spared a glance to her handmaiden, her eyes focused on Chad. ”Fetch my betrothed and I two glasses of sweet summerwine…You like wine, don’t you, deaest?” she inquired, not even bothering to wait for his answer before she shooed Mallory away with a wave of her hand.

Mallory bowed graciously before the two royals before she walked off to fetch them something to drink.

”Oh, I will make sure there is an abundance of jewels present at the wedding. My, I don’t recall an event involving a Prescott where there wasn’t jewels!” Helena gushed. She loved the flashiness of it all. When she mentioned Wyatt’s dress being embroidered with jewels she nodded her head almost frantically. ”I’m sure she’ll have something up her sleeve! She’s always full of surprises, that girl.”

Chad stopped dancing when the song was over, his eyes still fixated on Wyatt as she promised anything that would please him. Now that was what he’d want if he was forced to have a wife – a woman who would please him whenever he wanted, a woman who’d let him rule and look absolutely gorgeous beside him. Ideally, he’d have a woman who didn’t mind if he went to brothels, but that was a very risqué thing to expect from his fiancée. Oh well. If she had a problem with it Chad didn’t particularly care – he didn’t know her and he enjoyed sex, not just with one woman, but several. Sir. Coxx’s brothel was a location he often frequented, and he knew several of the whores there by name. They were all very nice, and very generous to him when he flaunted his father’s money everywhere. Whether or not he was wed, he’d have plenty of other options to please him.

As Wyatt summoned her handmaiden over, Chad noticed her for the first time. She was small and had just ceased talking to Sir. Audet. He was puzzled at that until he saw the man conversing with another servant. Oh, he knew Sir. Audet had a soft spot for them. He was perhaps the only royal in the Richardson castle who did. No one else could really be bothered to keep them happy.

She looked soft and submissive and his eyes were first drawn to her hair, the same red as Lady Wyatt’s. He was a horrible man, who found taunting the female servants under his rule with his attractiveness amusing. He watched as Mal shuffled away, his eyes trailing over her hidden figure without a flicker of shame. Though he was enraptured with Wyatt’s exposed features, there was something captivating about a modest woman, too. It filled him with mystery. He wanted to see as much of her as he could.

His attention was against stolen by his fiancée as she spoke to him and he laughed that charismatic laugh of his, wrapping an arm around her waist as he led her towards the sidelines, not sparing a glance at the various knights and servants who were stationed around the dance floor, not having any fun like the royals were having.

”Of course, Lady Wyatt. I’ll drink whatever you’d like. Your tastes are my tastes!” He said, leaning his face down closer to her again. His hands began to wander from her waist towards the sides of her stomach. ”I’ll eat whatever you’d like me to, too.” He added in a husky tone, biting down on his lower lip.

”Perfect! I want plenty of jewels – but nothing too overshadowing about them. I don’t want to dwarf my son and his betrothed.” Queen Richardson said, watching her son. She didn’t catch his eyes leaving Wyatt and when they moved closer, she squared her shoulders in approval. Sir. Audet was off to the side conversing with a few other royals now and her husband was spewing politics with one of their neighboring allies, a family who’d sworn their allegiance to House Richardson long ago. They of course would be invited to the wedding. Already the Queen was going over the invited in her mind. ”Oh I have no doubt she’ll churn out a beautiful dress. She is very charming, I quite like her.”

Men were easy to control, but so many women failed to do so. Most of the women with whom Queen Richardson associated were spineless and just did as their men told them. It was so easy to use her female assents to get King Richardson to do whatever she’d like, a manipulation she saw in Wyatt at the moment. Her eyes found that handmaiden, fetching Chad and Wyatt a drink, and she made a face. Couldn’t they have marred her face, made her ugly? An attractive handmaiden was dangerous to have around, especially if she might capture the eyes of the young men meant for the high class, like a vulture.

Wyatt simply adored how much attention the prince graced her with. Sure, men fawned over her all the time but none had the title Chad did! He would be king of the lands one day and that made all the difference. She didn’t know when exactly they were to be wed but she would make sure it was soon so they could start procuring an heir soon. It wasn’t completely official until she provided him with an heir, then her spot would be secure.

She watched in boredom as her daft handmaiden left their presence but caught the prince’s eyes dwelling for longer than she liked on the girl. Wyatt did not like that at all! If that pathetic girl was going to ruin this for her she would have to have her dealt with. She should be lucky her parents didn’t have her killed as a child and had mercy on her. Then again why would the prince be interested in a dirty little servant girl? She was a much better catch anyway! She would make sure he knew it when she got him into bed.

Gazing up at the golden haired prince when he looked back to her, she smiled warmly and followed him to the sidelines. She much preferred it over here where it was more private. Wyatt giggled as she felt his hands travel from his waist, her arms looping around his neck. His words were like music to her ears! She already had him in the palm of her hand. Men were so easy to control, all it took was a pair of breasts and what was between her legs.

”Mmm, I believe you will make me a very happy wife, my Prince,” Wyatt purred as she studies his eyes, her smile widening as he bit down on his lip.

Mallory quickly made her way to the refreshments, completely oblivious to the prince admiring her from afar. She poured two chalices of summerwine before taking a deep breath and heading back into the crowd. With all the dancing people it was hard to navigate through everyone without spilling any of the wine. Finally she saw her lady and the prince standing off to the side looking…rather intimate with one another. Was she supposed to wait for them to finish? She didn’t want the Queen to hate her for not fulfilling her duties, so she made her way over and quickly cleared her throat.

”M’lady, your wine,” Mallory offered softly though loud enough to be heard. She extended one of the chalices out to Wyatt and bowed her head obediently, avoiding eye contact.

Wyatt had to tear herself away from Chad’s gaze when she heard her handmaiden. With a roll of her eyes she rather hesitantly disentangled herself from the prince to take her wine. ”It took you long enough, girl!” she replied, wanting to complain about something since she had completely ruined her moment with the prince.

”I’m sorry, m’lady but there were lots of people to navigate around,” Mallory quickly apologized. She briefly glanced up at the prince before offering him his chalice of wine. ”Your highness,” she said softly before avoiding her gaze once more.

”Oh, but of course! Our children will be the main focus, the jewels will only accent their beauty. I have the perfect stones in mind, lovely warm shades which will dazzle but not be too overwhelming,” Helena assured her with a smile. She watched her daughter and the prince with a smile on her face. Her little girl looked absolutely smitten already! Then again, the lady had no idea what plots Wyatt had stirring in her mind. All that matter to Helena was the luxuries which would come along with one day having a grandson sitting atop the throne. When the Queen expressed her approval of her daughter, Helena beamed. ”That makes me so happy to hear, your Grace, my daughter was so hoping you’d like her. I think she was more worried about your approval than the prince!” she giggled.

Her daughter had good reason to want to be in the Queen’s good graces but of course Helena was completely blind to it. She was a naïve woman like the typical female royal. Lady Prescott listened to her husband and doted on her child. She was firm when she needed (like when she sent her husband’s bastard to the wall) but most of the time she just enjoyed living in luxury and having fun.
