Chad heard someone acknowledge him, and looked over to see clones! Two boys who looked exactly the same were grinning at him, and judging by their proximity to him and that fact they were looking, they were the ones who had spoken! Well, technically, it had been one of them, but…

“Oh! Me?” Chad asked, ceasing the whistling. He unhooked his thumbs from his jeans and leaned his elbows onto his knees to sit in a bit more relaxed position. “My mom tells me it’s because I have a HUGE mouth, that I get so loud! I tell her she’s crazy, but she’s actually right.”

He smiled at them. “So… am I seein’ double, or are you two twins!”

“Chance and Chase! Why so similar!” Chad sighed out, shaking his head. “Don’t you get confused? Well, I’m Chad. Maybe I’m your long lost triplet!”

He laughed at the ridiculous notion, and their antics. These two brothers were clearly close—and really funny, too! He’d also never seen them around, despite the fact that he was fairly popular and he’d been attending this school for three years or so.

“Are you two freshmen? I’ve never seen you before. I’m a junior.” Chad said.

“This hair of mine could be dyed, you know! Maybe I actually have an afro like you two! But maybe I’m undercover. Like an afro-superhero!” His mother would actually probably kill him if he got an afro—or a mohawk—or dyed his hair. Oh well—didn’t make the joke any less funny!

Chad listened to the two bicker and argue and insult-yet-complement one another. It made him wish he had a cool twin. They could even double team when they got girls! He was sure that the ladies flocked towards sets of twins… they were eye catching after all!

Chad ran his fingers through his hair. Then again, if there was any more of Chad, the world just may implode! He was too perfect to be duplicated. His twin would surely feel insufficient!

“I guess he got a pretty bad chance when it came to having good skin!” Chad said, proud of his name-pun even though it was pretty lame. “And I’ve been here for a few years. Yeah, this place is pretty neat. There’s a lot of interesting people—and girls. Hope you don’t have girlfriends back home, because they can get really distracting here, if you know what I mean!”

He laughed loudly and genuinely, a wide smile on his face.

“You can never waste too much on your hair! You’ve gotta keep it looking fresh, after all. Besides, who wants to go bald at thirty! Not me, that’s for sure! ‘Sides, I like my looks! I’m hot!” Chad said. He didn’t put too much effort into his hair, now that he thought about it… but, considering what was just said, maybe he should start to do that!

He grinned at Chance, nodding his head.

“Heck yeah there’s plenty of cuties! You guys have a house, right? Well, they’ll be two girls there. I don’t know who you got stuck with, but last year I got a real babe in the room across the hall from me. I dated her for a bit, even! Not to mention, this school is for the gifted in all kinda of arts. That means there are plenty of models! And actresses!”

He wiggled his eyebrows suggestively.

“Pfft. Never insult a man’s hair. And yeah, two girls!” Chad laughed. “I thought it was weird, too, at first, but I guess this school really likes to enforce responsibility on their students. So we live co-ed pretty early. I think there may be a way to live in just girls or just boys, but honestly? Where’s the fun in that?"

Chad laughed again this time, and a smirk formed on his lips when the sound ended.

“Hey, if you guys need help getting the ladies, I can help you.” Chad said. It really would be nice of him to help out these two, wouldn’t it? It was their first year here, after all. They were pretty nice guys, and judging by what he’d seen of them, they looked like the kind of guys girls here might like. "I mean, I don’t know about you guys, but I’ve been in a lotta relationships!”

Well… most of these friendships were casual flings, nothing serious, and the occasion friend-with-benefits. Chad knew how to get a girl, but he wasn’t particularly good at or determined to keep them.

That didn't really matter, though, since getting them was really all that mattered to him.

“Other things to worry about!” Chad laughed, shaking his head. “Really! There’s nothing more relaxing than dealing with girls! What you lack, twin B, is confidence. If you got paired up with two hot twins, well hell, I might have to spend a little time over at your house myself!”

Chad fanned out his arms, so that they were stretched across the entire bench’s back.

“You see, shy guys get some attention, but you have to know you’re a catch to get the good girls. You know that saying… ‘she’s out of my league?’ Guys only falter at that because they think they don’t measure up to her standards. You gotta present yourself like you’re the best, let her know you’re interested, and if she likes it? Cool. If she doesn’t? You’re outta her league!”

Dating came so naturally to Chad—maybe it would be fun to teach someone else! He wondered what kind of girls Chase was interested in. Chance too, for that matter—he was sure with his advice, they’d both have their first choice girl!

Sure, Chad had been rejected, but that was only because the girls couldn't handle his high levels of perfection. He couldn't blame them.

“Fffft. I see what your problem is. Sure, that attitude is fine for making friends. But if you approach girls like that, when you finally ask them out, you’ll get the ‘just friends’ or, what’s worse, the ‘just like a brother to me’ cards. I mean, fairy tales and chick flicks have the ‘best friends suddenly become lovers’ plot, but real life? I’ve never seen it happen.”

Chard let out a long, long sigh.

“I mean, I get what you’re saying. What’s a relationship if you don’t like the girl as a friend too? It’s sex, that’s what it is. Buuuuut…” He dramatically paused, his grin meeting his eyes with a twinkle, “Disregarding that, if you want a serious girlfriend and not a girl friend, you gotta let them know you’re interested. Otherwise, they won’t give you the light of day. Like your brother says, you’re pretty good looking. You’re just not getting girls because you’re not setting off the right vibes.”

“You’re right, nothing wrong with being friends. But seriously, Chase, you will have a lot of fun if you try.” Chad sighed out. “I mean, I can throw my amazing advice at you all day, but if you don’t use it perfectly, it won’t do you much good. Suuuuch a shame, you’re probably never gonna get a girl with that attitude!”

Chad watched the two banter back and forth with raised eyebrows.

“Sooooo… I guess you’ve had a girlfriend, right?” he looked at Chance. “What was she like?”

Wow, what an idiotic broad Chance’s ex-girlfriend was! If you’re going to pull the cheating card, especially with someone who thought they were in a monogamous relationship with you, you don’t just go flaunting your number two like he’s a brand new purse! She must have been quite the looker, to think she could get away with that.

“Okay, you’re missing out on the best part, though. But if you need advice, Chad Richardson’s your man! Just tell me if you find a girl you like!” He said brightly. He was more than willing to help these guys get on the right side of dating! “And she sounds like a real dummy, you know?”

“It can’t be helped—sometimes, girls get bored of having the structured and safe confines of a committed relationship. There’s always a thrill in cheating for them. And that’s why you always leave before them!”

That was another reason he didn’t usually stick around with the same girl too long. As idiotic it seemed to let him go, of all people, sometimes the lack of thrill just turned a girl off.

Well, that, and sometimes he felt like he just described—bored. Not everyone could measure up to Chad, after all. It was only natural he’d dumped a few girls before they had the opportunity to cheat on him or dump him first. And he’d cheated, too, several times, but no one had found that out yet. So he was golden.

“Makes sense.” Chad said, shrugging his shoulders. “If a girl feels ignored, she’ll definitely cheat. So I guess that breakup was your fault, bud!”

Chad laughed at the inquiry.

“Oh, I’ve had my fair share of crazies. Most of them were pretty chill, though. But anyway, I did date this one girl my first year here—first girlfriend of High School, right? But she seriously had some… I don’t know, complex. Or her brother had one. Either way, he was wicked protective and she was defensive. I’m not talking sweet, I’m talking borderline possessive. When I tried telling her that, she broke up with me! I mean, really. It was almost like her brother was jealous.”

Chad made a face. “That’s the reason I try to avoid asking out girls who have siblings I know about. ‘Cause usually, it’s a brother, and brothers tend to be super-macho-possessive. We were just having fun, after all, and he had to butt his head in! And she liked her brother more than me, anyway, so.”

“It was a little more than that! I mean, they were obsessed with each other. She’d dump me for him all the time. I have a little sister, but you don’t see spending every waking second with her! She even went with him as his date to the dance that year because he couldn't find a date, when I was her boyfriend! Family’s important, but I mean…”

He shook his head. “She totally wouldn’t have used him as an excuse to dump me! After all, I’m great! Why would she need an excuse to break up with me? If she wanted to, all she had to do was say so! I mean, she wasn’t that great anyway. Most freshmen are awkward looking, no offense, and she was not an exception.”

He made a face. “I just don’t get it. I guess I kind of learned a lesson… not to bother!”

She had him! Who cared what her dumb brother thought! Chad was the best that girl would probably ever get, and she just threw him away because her brother didn’t approve! Such a waste. Although, to be honest, Chad had been dating another girl behind her back—something her brother didn’t even know about, he was sure, since no cheating rumors surfaced.

Chad heard a mumble come from Chase, and looked up, pursing his lips.

“What was that? Over confidence?” He didn’t catch that much of the sentence—just that word, or phrase. “And how is that a problem? I know I’m great, and I show it. Aha! But I mean, you just can’t go wrong with twins, right? I think it’d be hilarious if you guys met a set of girl twins, and you each dated one. I really hope your roommates are twins, now, because that would be a riot.”

He hadn’t seen many twins in the school, now that he thought about it. Not many single girl twins, anyway. And all the twins he saw were a boy and a girl. And he was not even going to bother with twin brothers. Regular brothers were annoying enough.

Chad furrowed his brows and tilted his head, not quite understanding where Chase was coming from. What was wrong with valuing himself so much? He loved himself. If someone had a problem with that, then Chad didn’t want to date them. It was that simple.

“Well, not to sound like a douche or anything, but which one of us has had multiple girlfriends before?” Chad said, with a laugh. “Didn't mena to quote ya, but I get your point, some girls don’t like guys like that. But you see, girls like that? I don’t care about them. I want someone who appreciates me, and doesn’t think my well-deserved confidence is annoying.”

“So, I take it you’ve not met your housemates yet, right? You seemed shocked there would be two girls.”

Chad waved his hand.

“OK, Mr. Single. You keep telling yourself that.” He said. This guy seemed like he was looking for ‘the one’. What a silly concept that was. “And of course my relationships count as relationships! If a boy and a girl are dating, it’s a relationship. Right?”

Chad looked at Chase as he spoke.

“Hmm…” Chad glanced at his watch. “Well, I don’t know about you, but I’m not even moved in! I got back a few days early from vacation… and my mom’s insisting I come here and tell them. I wanted the extra vacation, but she’s insisting I try to get back on campus right away. I can’t wait to meet my housemates.”

He hoped it was like last year, where he met a girlfriend. That would be nice, except if they did ever break up, it would be very messy.

Oh well, he’d have to see.
