Personality
Basic Personality: Given the way Casey grew up, he missed out on a lot of common childhood experiences. Because of this, Casey often ends up confused when others discuss their childhoods. He often feels awkward because he can't relate. This leads to a lot of stammering and embarrassed half-smiles. Casey always gives his all in every endeavor, typically putting his own health aside to make sure things get done. This usually isn't too good for his immune system, but he always says that he didn't pass the bar at age twenty one by taking sick days. Casey also suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder due to the assault that led to him leaving the law firm. He has frequent nightmares, and there are several things that trigger vivid flashbacks for him. Examples are being cornered in a room by another person, sudden loud noises, major lighting changes, and certain features on a person's face. During his flashbacks, he usually locks himself in a small room and wedges himself into the corner, even if there's no one around. Casey originally became a defense attorney so he could help people, and once he couldn't be an attorney, he decided that becoming a teacher would put his BA in psychology to good use. Overall, Casey is a nice guy, who tries to remain positive.

History
Family members:
-Ophelia Joslyn Renshaw-Caldwell (Mother): Ophelia Caldwell is Casey's mother. Her and Casey's father disappeared when Casey was four years old, and he has no idea what happened to them. His memories of his parents are very hazy.
-Easton Jeremiah Caldwell (Father): Easton Caldwell is Casey's father. His only memories of him are of the night before his parents left, when his father came into his room and read him a story until he fell asleep. Casey always wished he could remember the title.
-Jackson Caldwell (Uncle): Jackson is Easton's older brother and Casey's uncle and guardian. He took over after Casey's parents left. He mainly left Casey alone to deal with his own problems, and acted more like a friend than a guardian. Jack worked as a pharmaceutical technician, and when he wasn't at home, he was asleep. Casey and Jack never ended up close, and Casey never really felt comfortable talking to his uncle about his problems. This caused him to start bottling up his emotions, leading to more problems in the present. Jack was always supportive of Casey going to college early, despite being a bit wary. He never discussed his worries with Casey, and just allowed him to make his own choices without any of his input.
-Imogen Kaia Sullivan (Half-Sister): Imogen is Casey's younger half-sister. She's currently 19 years old, and was born to Anna Sullivan after Casey's parents disappeared. Anna Sullivan never disclosed the details of her relationship with Casey's father. Imogen lives with her mother, Anna, but her and Casey now text and call often. They've even met up several times, despite the fact that she lives in Georgia. She's the only one that can keep Casey grounded and calm him down during panic attacks. Imogen knows that Casey is gay, even if he hasn't figured it out yet, and hopes he finds someone soon who can help him when she can't. She majors in visual art.
Backstory:
Casey was born in Miami, Florida on August 9th. When Casey was four, his mother and father ran off, leaving him in the care of his Uncle Jack. He excelled in school, but had a very hard time making friends. His uncle didn't know what to do about Casey's social anxiety, so he kept Casey busy with schoolwork. All Casey did from then on was study, leaving little time for any parts of a 'normal' childhood. He didn't mind though, since it was all he really knew. However, he started wondering if he was worth anything without his good grades, and began to worry that he wasn't actually worth anyone's time. He skipped quite a few grades, eventually graduating from the University of Miami at the age of eighteen with his Bachelor's degree in psychology. From there, he entered law school. He'd always admired attorneys, and had known from a young age that he wanted to help prove people innocent. With a lot of hard work, he passed the bar at the age of twenty one, entering the Dumont and Flynn Law Firm. Around that time, he also learned that he had a sister. Well, a half-sister. Imogen found him when she was snooping through some of her mother's old letters and learned about her father, Easton Caldwell. Imogen was naturally curious, and eventually located Casey. The two became very close pretty fast, exchanging information and learning everything they could about each other's life. They texted everyday, and called at least once a week.
For a while things seemed to be looking up. He became pretty close friends with his coworkers, and had several successful trials. However, life isn't always fair, and Casey's life changed after his first failed trial at age twenty four. He was defending Farah Baird, a woman accused of two accounts of murder. The night after the trial, he was laying in his bed, still a bit disappointed over his first loss, even though she'd definitely been guilty. Suddenly, his bedroom light flickered and turned off, bathing the room in darkness. There was a loud bang and the lamp next to the bed burst in a flurry of glass shards. There was a man in the doorway of the room, staring straight at Casey. He would later find out that the man was Farah Baird's husband. Casey tried to fight back, but the man was much taller and broader than him. Casey doesn't like talking about what happened that night, and was diagnosed with PTSD. Afterwards, he realized that he couldn't go back to work. Everything reminded him of what happened and he was terrified to take on another case. So he quit. For a while he cut himself off from the world, and didn't leave his apartment. He talked to no one, not even Imogen. Eventually, she got worried and drove down to Miami to find him. She unlocked the apartment with her spare key, and stepped inside. The curtains had been drawn and none of the lights were on. Old files and half-eaten meals littered the table, dishes stacked up in the sink. She found Casey in the living room, curled up in the corner of the couch, extremely malnourished. She stayed with him for a week, helping him to get back on his feet and telling him that he needed to find a new job. A new reason to keep going. For her, he got his teaching certification and finally got a response from Metric Academy. Imogen helped him pack up his belongings and saw him off to Salem, California.
