Renata Josephina Mendez || Mother || 45 – The relationship between Rita and her mother was very strained and became even worse after Aaron got sick. Renata couldn’t handle the stress of all of the medical bills and hospital visits and left Rita and her father. To this day, Rita doesn’t speak to her mother.



Aaron Julius Bello || Father || Deceased – Rita and her father were very close, and grew even closer in the time approaching Rita going to college. When Rita turned 17 her father got very sick after coming back from a mission trip in the Philippines. He promised Rita he would be there to see her off to college and he kept his promise. Aaron passed away the week after Rita started college.

Rita always had dreams of making it big in the fashion world. She was born in New York, and throughout her childhood her parents (specifically her father) supported her dreams and encouraged her to apply to performing art schools all around the country. When Rita was sixteen, she took a summer job in Calabasas, California and her parents followed her there, though her mother was reluctant. It was there in California that she became aware of Metric College in Salem, a town only a few hours away from her home in Calabasas. She quickly applied and at 17, Rita received the news of acceptance the same day her father returned from a missions trip to the Philippines. The good news was short lived. Her father started to grow very ill and was followed by news of her father having only an estimated 8 months left. This is when Rita’s life began to spiral out of control, her mother left her, and Rita’s mental and emotional health was spiraling downwards. Her eating disorder started off very mild (it was some sort of self discipline to try to make it in the modeling world), but became worse as her college move-in date approached. Aaron had no idea that his daughter was struggling, and Rita kept it from him because she didn’t want him to worry. Aaron passed away a week after Rita moved into Metric and from there things only got worse for her. Her eating disorder became severe at this point and during a fashion show she fainted and ended up in the hospital. She was given the opportunity to stay at Metric College if she got help, but she was too stressed out and dropped college all together. Luckily her father had left behind sufficient funds for his only child and with that she moved into a lofty apartment and got herself help. Once she was stable, she found an intern job for a fashion agency in Los Angeles. Rita still struggles with controlling her weight and her unhealthy habits, and has been working for the same fashion agency since the age of 19.
