BASICS
Name:
Arielle Collyn Sanford
Nicknames:
None in particular but if anyone can think of any, feel free!
Age/Birthday:
20/November 10
Job:
Intern at the local middle school
SCHOOL/LIFE
Class:
Junior
Major:
Teaching with a focus in History. She also takes creative writing classes for fun, though that has nothing to do with her major.
Grades:
Average. Not straight A's, but hardly failing. Arielle can get distracted very easily.
Friends:
FRIENDS!!!
Enemies:
BOO!!!
Orientation:
Arielle doesn't have a label specifically. She'll comment if anyone's cute, boy or girl. And she's more concerned with who people are on the inside, not the outside. But she doesn't want to be physical with anyone either. So if she had to have a label she'd probably call it Abipan (a-bi-pan). Or maybe just open-minded. Yeah, let's go with that.
APPEARANCE
Body:
5'5 1/2 height. Her weight is probably normal, since she hadn't been told otherwise.
Eye Color:
Brown
Hair:
Black and thick. Kind of a combination of straight and wavy. She doesn't like to braid or weave it because that's a pain in the butt. Since she has a lot of long hair she just likes to keep it out of her face somehow. Once in a while she might get highlights or temporarily dye it - though nothing crazy like pink, green or purple.
Style:
Tomboy. Jeans, sneakers, sweat jackets, t-shirts are the basics. She's totally fine if she's wearing something that's ripped - though she does have to work out a better wardrobe for student teaching. It's especially hard when she doesn't like wearing anything dressy or lacy. If she could, Arielle would probably wear mostly boy's clothes. They have way better designs anyway!
Ethnicity:
Her mother is African American and her father is a mix of a few different things: Greek, European, Jamaican and Welsh just to name a few.

FAMILY/BACKSTORY
Family:
Deshawn Sanford, Contractor: Arielle's father has been in and out of her life, though they have a great relationship overall. Even when things ultimately ended up not working with his then-fiancé Zuri, he never once dropped all contact with Arielle. Deshawn has only been out of state a number of times, as the contracting company he works for is based in the Carolina's. Deshawn always had a bit of a wandering eye and that is more than likely where Arielle got her distractedness from. Deshawn has been with multiple woman; some one-night stands and some serious though none he's ever cheated on. One thing that can be said for Deshawn is that despite everything he's a good father. Even if he has issues with the women or doesn't get along with them he will support the kids in some way, be it financial or emotional. With a number of kids out there child support is few and far in between with the women but the majority of the time if any of the kids has a problem they can reach out to him. As of Arielle's junior year in college, Deshawn has seven kids.
Zuri Beckenridge, Banker: Arielle loves her mother, though with Zuri's serious nature contrasting Arielle's naivety it can be difficult for them to see eye to eye. Though she doesn't think highly of her ex, she won't say anything too negative about him in front of Arielle. She is just happy that they communicate and have at least a decent relationship. Zuri has rarely dated with Arielle around and Arielle has only met one boyfriend. With Arielle away at Metric for college Zuri may have a little more leeway to date someone; if she is in a relationship Arielle doesn't know about it. She doesn't necessarily care so long as it's a good guy and her mom is happy. Zuri is supportive of Arielle wanting to become a teacher, though has attempted to direct her in different career paths. Come on, living on a teacher's salary? Not exactly a piece of cake.
Sterling Baker-Sanford, 15; Tylen and Kyler Boon, 12; Peyton Avery Sanford, 10; Wes Sanford, 6; Chimera Croft, 3: Arielle's half siblings. Some have their mother's surname as opposed to Deshawn's. Once a year Deshawn will try to get all his kids together for a family day. Arielle gets along with most of her siblings. She'd probably consider herself closest to Sterling and Kyler. She has babysat Wes in the past, as their mothers became very close. Sterling is the awkward teenager; Tylen is the troublemaker; Kyler is athletic and smart but failing his creative classes; Peyton is on the autism spectrum (though Arielle isn't sure to what extent); Wes is extremely hyper and Chimera is the baby. Arielle doesn't typically have a problem with any of her half siblings, however Tylen's outbursts do catch her off guard and she feels awkward somehow about Deshawn's youngest being another girl.
Transportation:
Arielle doesn't need a car. She uses her bike Harvey to get everywhere. Of course she named her bike! Doesn't everyone?
History:
There's actually not much to tell. Arielle is born and raised in North Carolina. When Zuri found out she was pregnant, Deshawn proposed and they remained engaged until Arielle was around three. The split wasn't exactly on best terms, but the two have always co-parented to the best of their abilities. Arielle may have grown up in a 'broken home' but with her parents always around in one way or another she never felt weird or different about it.
When she was four, Deshawn got with his first girlfriend post-Zuri; probably the only other amicable woman in the bunch. Arielle's half-brother Sterling was born when she was five and they grew up living about forty-five minutes away from each other. Even though they're technically half-siblings, Arielle never looked at Sterling any differently and always just referred to him as her brother. She enjoyed seeing him and playing with him. Three years later Tylen and Kyler were born after one of Deshawn's one night stands. The twins didn't have it as easy growing up as Arielle and Sterling did; their mother was like the male version of Deshawn, hooking up with multiple guys. The difference, however, was that she almost always brought them around her sons. That might be why Tylen was more prone to acting out, because he was so mad and confused by all the different men. Kyler, on the other hand, was perfectly fine aside from problems expressing himself. Peyton is ten years younger than Arielle and living close to the boarder between North and South Carolina. As a result, Arielle didn't see him much except for the once-a-year get-togethers. She never had a problem with him, but was always warned to be more cautious because of his autism. As it was never explained to Arielle in depth, she doesn't know any details nor understand anything about it or Peyton. Wes was born when Arielle began high school. Unfortunately that was during one of the points where Deshawn was out of state so he missed out a lot on the first year. With Zuri and Arielle no more than ten minutes away from them, they stepped up and really helped Wes and his mother out. Arielle sees Wes' mother as an aunt figure and knows how close the two mothers are. Arielle enjoys playing with Wes and he is probably how she developed so much of her childlike personality. Deshawn's last 'baby momma' was an extremely tumultuous relationship and even though a paternity test proved that Deshawn was the father (she had cheated on her husband with Deshawn) there's another man helping to raise Chimera and also claims her as his daughter. While they don't exactly stop Deshawn form seeing her, Deshawn doesn't have a lot of time with Chimera. As a result he can overcompensate with her. That may or may not attribute to the awkwardness Arielle feels about her.
Arielle knows her family is a bit different, but just considers it bigger than most. Since she, in a sense, had a lot of siblings popping up as she grew, Arielle's mostly focused on them than anything else in her life. She credits them as the reason she wanted to become a teacher. Well, that and Boy Meets World. When Arielle didn't understand anything about life or just wanted to laugh at something, she'd turn to that show to help get her through. She feels she learned a lot of important lessons. At first Arielle wasn't sure what level she should teach specifically - elementary school or secondary. Wes' mother was the one who suggested secondary, primarily middle school. With Arielle's childlike personality and her experience with her siblings in general it seemed like the perfect combination.
Arielle applied to a few different colleges her junior year. Most of them were on the East Coast, where her siblings were, though she did apply to one or two in the Midwest or West Coast just for the heck of it. One of those schools was Metric, which she didn't think she would get into. Arielle was hesitant at first about accepting, but it is an amazing school and Zuri believed that it would give Arielle the chance to learn to become more independent. It took a bit of effort, but eventually Arielle gave in. It's great education-wise, but she has become a bit more childish since starting there; possibly to overcompensate for not being near any of her siblings. Or it could be just because she doesn't want to grow up and go into the real world. Then again, who does anyway? Arielle can totally prove that it's fine to be an 'adult' and act like a teenager or child. Especially if she can pass for it. Don't judge.
☼You know that "weird" person who always seems to be around campus and can just pop out of nowhere or say random things or act like a total kid and no one except that person's closest friends seems to know how to handle them? Yeah, that's Arielle. And no, it's not a chemical imbalance or anything in her brain. That's just who she is.
☼She started taking writing classes as electives because of Sterling. She was helping him with homework one night while she was home and she went just a little bit overboard with one of his writing assignments. He said she should do stuff like that more often and she took it to heart.
☼Arielle's parents opted to spell her name different as to not confuse her with The Little Mermaid's Ariel. But if you asked them about her middle name, they'd have no idea where Collyn came from.
☼Arielle has a whole notebook of 'lessons' she learned from the Boy Meets World series. The way the show related lessons to things in the characters' lives was also what inspired her to become a teacher. She's continuing learning more 'lessons' from the sequel series Girl Meets World as well.
☼Her theme song would probably be something from the 90's or early 00's. Like 'Dive in' (Christy Carlson Romano), 'Life is a Party' (Aaron Carter), 'A Day in the Sun' (Annaliese Van Der Pol), or 'Do You Believe in Magic' (Aly & AJ).
☼Arielle is a dog person. She would seriously keep a dog in her suite - and she has looked at dogs. Not a big one or a hyper one, just a little one. Maybe like a cocker spaniel or shitzu or something. And yes, she does have names picked out: Pabu for a boy and Naga for a girl.
☼Yes, the above mentioned names are from the Legend of Korra. Although Arielle would save the name Appa for a bigger dog.
☼If you want to distract Arielle in an instant, just use something shiny. Works every time.
