It was a sunny November afternoon and the local amusement park in Salem had decided to host a free concert for students at Metric Academy, with paid admission for non-students and faculty of the school. The host of the concert, a band whose members had all graduated from the Academy years ago, did this when they could fit time into their tour schedules. There had been advertisements all throughout campus promoting the event, which was going to have free food and refreshments, access to the park’s festivities, and a chance to dance and have fun at the concert for all students with a Metric Academy ID.
Shyanne Volle had invited two of her housemates to come to the event with her – well, of course Rylan would have gone, it was a concert! And on top of that it was a concert put on by Metric graduates! Someday this could be them – though their dreams were Broadway, still! Shyanne imagined that someday she’d perform back at her alma mater when she graduated, a successful actress, and blow everyone away in that theater! Plus going to events like this and talking about them with teachers made them like her and respect her dedication to the alumni of the school. And that would be great for her future! She was really excited to experience the concert with Rylan! Seamus had tagged along because he had the day off of work, and Issy was busy today with dance. Shyanne promised her best friend she’d keep her boyfriend out of trouble today – and thus, here they were!
There was music playing in the background, a pop medley. The park was lively and filled with people. Shyanne could hear the screams from people riding roller coasters and other attractions. Seamus had his varsity jacket thrown across his shoulders and a pair of light jeans on his legs, his hands shoved in his pockets as he inhaled the scent of popcorn and cotton candy.
”Oh my God!!! I wonder if these people will, like, actually be good. Do you think their vocal chords diminished? And after the concert, or before, we totally need to go on rides. I want to, Rylan! Like if the concert is major yawn I am so leaving to ride stuff.” Shyanne gushed, pulling her cell phone out of her clutch to pop a quick text. When she finished she turned around towards the boys with a charming smile on her face, golden hair bouncing behind her. Seamus gave a small smile in response but was more interested in the stands and looking at all the fried food, which was making his stomach whine. He wondered if the free food was going to be decent, or if it was just going to be sandwiches or something equally boring.-x-
Coach Fields was going to the concert at the amusement park too, though he was there as a volunteer helping to set up the event for the performers. He was smiling and laughing at everything the lead singer said, humming along off-key to the music playing overhead and making sure the venue was fully functional. The food laid out were burgers, sandwiches, and beverages.
The group playing was a pretty well-known one, though rather minor – they just got their big break and were paying some tribute to their alma mater. Student in the music programs could get extra credit by attending, and students who were simply bored and wanted to enjoy the park and music were allowed to come, too. Russell looked forward to seeing his students, as well as getting to enjoy the park, even if he was going to be alone riding all the rides because Susan had to stay and take care of a sick Adelaide! He’d make the most of the situation.
He danced around the venue as the lead singer did a sound check, a crowd of people beginning to form. Russell couldn’t tell students from Salem residents, but could tell that the crowd was going to be big. He gave the band a thumbs up as he maneuvered himself toward the crowd of onlookers, getting lost in it.
