Kara chewed the grape flavored gum in her mouth as she walked inside the park, again, going on her daily sort-of walk to keep herself in shape. Or so she called it in her head anyway. In reality, she wasn’t exactly going anywhere with a purpose at the moment. Kara was bored of her house—the boys were home and she wanted zero part of that—and she had the day off, so on a windy day in early October here she was in the park.
California didn’t get that cold. Kara was wearing a loose black tank top with a fishnet 3/4th sleeve underneath it, a blue and green plaid skirt with some more fishnet leggings, and a pair of black sneakers. On top of her head was a black little beanie that blended almost perfectly with her dark hair. The wind blew by and caressed Kara’s face, and she started to hum under her breath to the tune of the latest song she was working on learning with the school’s orchestra. She had one part to learn and it was the most intense part of the song—it included a lot of trills and notes but it was Kara’s brief solo for the piece, and she wanted to get it spot-on before she dared attend another meeting. She was getting there, and after she was done her walk, she decided she’d practice some more in her room, housemates be damned.
Kara saw someone familiar in the park, Daphne La’Rochefoucault, sitting on one of the park benches with her legs crossed in an elegant manner with a book poised in front of her. The tall girl had a cup of hot tea in one hand, and was holding the book before her open with her other. Upon close inspection, the title of the book had to do with choreography. It was a picture book, one that Daphne’s dance instructor had recommended for their students. Daphne’s outfit was extremely lacey, the holes in the jeans were covered with floral lace and the top she wore was a lace sweater, closed with the three buttons down the middle, and she wore a brown tank top underneath. Her straight, long hair was drawn back into a high ponytail.
Daphne stared too long, before she decided to just sit down on the bench beside Daphne. Daphne did not move when the seat beside her was occupied but instead took another sip of her tea, flicking the page in her book.
”Are you a volunteer in the library?” Kara asked. Daphne’s hand hesitated above her book, but she did not turn towards Kara.
”Oui.. I am off duty. Though… may I help you?” She said, the French accent strong. Kara shook her head.
”Do you know if they have the book—“
”Am not up-to-date of all the release dates. Ask the library. When someone is on duty.” Daphne interrupted, not wanting her time to be wasted. Kara rolled her eyes at Daphne’s frigidness, realizing she’d be of no help. Kara wanted to know if the library had a book she saw someone in her band section reading. Oh well… she’d have to go visit the library herself.
Kara stood up immediately and stepped forward, not watching where she was going or if anyone was in her way.
