Arthur Summers held the map in front of him with a grimace. He did not want to go wandering in the forest with his assigned group of ‘study buddies’ to find some stupid plant. Actually, the people in this study group weren’t even in his class. It was some weird kind of system Susan had set up to get kids in different classes to interact. Group 2, Arthur’s group, didn’t have one stupid soul from his class in it. The lot of them had to band together and brave the woods, looking for some stupid plant. Arthur was pretty sure it was Pinyon something, but he honestly did not care.
It was sunny. Arthur was wearing a dark blue, polo styled shirt and a pair of faded blue jeans. The top two buttons on his shirt were undone. It was breezy out here, and that cool breeze felt nice, especially in comparison to the warm sun.
Arthur was the first one here. He knew there was supposed to be a group of four going in. He wished they’d hurry up, he didn’t want to be out here all day.
He heard footsteps from behind him, and he turned around to see a girl his height, give or take an inch, approaching. Kara Cullen was on time for once, clothed in a pair of baggy jeans and a dark pink top that almost reached her knees. The top exposed her chubby shoulders slightly. She had a brown messenger bag on her hip and a starbucks cup of coffee in her hands.
Kara’s hair was pulled into a lazy ponytail, and she looked like she would rather be anywhere than here. There were thick bags underneath her almond eyes, revealing a lack of sleep.
“It’s too early for this.” Kara said, pulling her notebook out of her bag. The sunlight glittered off of her silver necklace, almost blinding Arthur.
“It’s 2 in the afternoon.” Arthur snapped, turning back around. “You look like you just rolled out of bed.”
“Only because that’s what I just did, snappy.” Kara sipped her coffee, sighing as she did so. “Aah, nothing like coffee on a wonderful morning.”
Arthur rolled his eyes and looked at the list.
“You’re not the girl with the wine for a name, are you?” He asked.
“No. Are you?”
Arthur introduced Kara to a certain finger of his before crossing Kara Cullen off of his list. One down, two more to go.
