Susan was cheerful and bright this morning. The first dance of the year was coming up. As she newest teacher on campus, Susan had only been here for less than a year, so she hadn’t ever had the opportunity to help out setting up a dance! Susan loved this kind of stuff, so she was very enthusiastic about it.
She’d managed to drag her brother, Arthur, into helping. She begged him for a while until he said yes. She wasn’t honestly expecting that many people to show up.
Susan was in the dance center, her lips pursed as she looked over a bunch of boxes. What was the theme? No one had told her. Since she volunteered to be in charge of this, it was all up to Susan. Maybe the volunteers could take a vote!
Susan was clothed in a pair of black slacks and a formal purple top that ended mid-thigh. It was almost like a mini dress. Arthur was wearing a button down plaid shirt and blue jeans, his lips drawn into a frown.
“What am I setting up?” He asked, wanting to finish and get out of here.
“First, we’re going to vote on a theme!” Susan said, with a wide smile. “Once others arrive, we’ll vote on a theme, and then set up! Sound fun?”
“No.”
“Nothing ever sounds fun to you. But it will be. Especially the dance.” Susan took a few decorations out. They could go for a spooky theme. Or a Christmas theme. It was much too early for that.
She let out a small sigh. What would they do?
The door opened, and Todd Bennett stood, with a smile on his face.
“Uhm, hi, is this the setup for the dance?” He asked, voice soft. Susan’s face lit up, and Athur’s grew darker. Todd looked nervously away. He was in a pair of faded blue jeans and a denim jacket, with a button down beneath it. As usual, he looked rather pleasing to the eye.
“I’m so glad to see you here! You can reach up high, this is wonderful! Ah, come in, come in!” Susan waved. She then placed her hand on Arthur’s shoulder.
“Artie, stop glaring. It’s rude.”
Another person hopped out from the shadows. Amy O’Neal wore a wide grin, her bushy hair pulled back into an obnoxious ponytail today. She was in a KE$HA hoodie and black jeans.
“I’m here to help, too!” She said, walking to the center of the room. With every new arrival, Susan grew happier. Arthur rolled his eyes upon seeing Amy, and Amy’s lips pulled down. Why was he here? He didn’t seem the type to help out. But then again, she barely knew him.
Amy moved to sytand beside Todd, away from Arthur, who was staring at the box.
“Give it a few more minutes, Arthur!” Susan insisted. “Setup’s not supposed to start until 11, and right now, t’s 10:50.”
Susan's eyes were focused hopefully on the door. Arthur's sneer was directed at the ceiling. Todd looked at his feet, nervous.
