Arthur had a hard time thinking that everything was okay. Chad didn’t have much trouble accepting it because the second the idea planted itself in his head, the second he allowed himself to realize the gunmen were gone, he latched onto the idea of a happy ever after. For now, anyway. Chad desperately wanted to call his dad and explain what happened.
Arthur groaned as he examined every shadow in the store, every crevice and rack of clothing within his range of sight. He was worried one of the gunmen would come out and shoot them—just to spite the cops, who were certainly going to be relieved they were all alive. Arthur was reluctant to move but soon the atmosphere grew less and less scary… Rory said something—something or other. But what Arthur heard clearly was Mason’s voice and, with the stinging pain in his leg growing sharper, he remembered how pissed off he was.
”Are you fucking singing?! Shut the fuck up!” Arthur snapped just as he saw the police heading into the room. And when there were no shots or threats made against them Arthur’s suspicions were mostly alleviated—they were no longer at gunpoint or in immediate danger. Arthur’s vision was only red however as he stared at Mason. ”Did we win?! WIN?! IS THIS A FUCKING GAME TO YOU?! I TOOK A BULLET BECAUSE YOU TRIED TO PLAY HERO! NO, WE DIDN’T WIN, YOU PIECE OF HORSE SHIT!”
By now Arthur was just losing his temper completely—the pain, adrenaline, and the anxiety catching up to him. The police seemed confused at first and watched the college students—the angriest of which were Arthur and Chardonnay, and likely Mason in a few minutes. Though they quickly seemed to grasp the situation and went right back to duty.
Arthur’s eyes darted over to Chardonnay as she yelled at Rory and Mason, for once agreeing with her completely. He took a few deep breaths, his leg throbbing now as his forehead gleamed with sweat. He turned to look at the police who were helping them, slowly moving his hand from covering his wound as the police officer said something about ambulances.
”Ambulance? You’re going to need to call a mortician too for when I’m done with him.” Arthur snapped, shooting a violent glare at Mason. Oh, if he wasn’t currently in excruciating pain from bleeding… he’d storm over there and punch the guy in the face. If looks could kill, Mason would be dead.
The sounds of another siren approaching were getting closer—the ambulance. When he heard the wailing sound, Arthur realized Susan would find out about this incident and squeezed his eyes shut. Shit. She wasn’t going to be happy.
Chad watched the arguing between Chardonnay and Arthur against Mason and his brother, not weighing in. He was annoyed with the guy but not particularly passionately angry. Hell, he felt a little bad for the guy with the bleeding shoulder. After all Chad had gotten out mostly unscathed. A police officer came over to check on him and Chad did his best to smile at the man though his smile was forced and tired, because of the incident and what was going on around him.
Another police officer came over to Niko’s side, examining her injuries. ”How does your head feel?” The officer asked her, wanting to know if she was at risk for a concussion.
