Susan Summers rubbed her hand on her very pregnant stomach.
”I’m so glad everyone’s back!” Susan said, wearing a very simple maxi floral dress that reached her ankles. The dress was loose enough so that it actually looked cute with the little baby bump. Susan was positively glowing as she sent a wave up at the school band, which was all assembled on the main stage in the school’s court. They were playing an assortment of songs from their last performance. The band at Metric was phenomenal of course.
Inside the band was Talya Harvall on her flute, and Kara Cullen on her violin. Both girls were wearing all black, Talya in a skirt and Kara in a pantsuit, and passionately playing.
Beside Susan was her younger bother, Arthur, in a unbuttoned white plaid shirt with a solid white one underneath, tan pants, and a grey beanie on his head. He glanced over at his sister, who was humming jovially under her breath.
”You’re literally the only one happy to be here, Susan.” He said, and Susan scoffed.
”Not true! Amy’s here, with her friends.” Susan pointed to Amy O’Neal who wore a pair of high wasted shorts and a school sweatshirt, standing beside Lucy Araujo, Todd Bennett (in a pair of faded blue jeans and a sky blue button down), and Chad Richardson. Shyanne Voll was hanging onto Chad’s every word, dressed ina very cute outfit, her hair down to her shoulders. Arthur almost did a double take when he saw Chad and Shyanne there, talking to Todd of all people, but then shook his head and turned away.
Todd had been working on branching out even more, and now that he was with friends, he was keeping an eye out for his own friends—mostly Max, and Ace, to complete the small group of friends that had formed a few years ago.
”Yeah. They’re smiling on the outside, but on the inside, they’re boiling with anger. They want to go back home and watch Netflix all day. I’m serious here!” Arthur said, and Susan was just giving him a very deadpanned look as she tried not to laugh, ”No one in their right mind enjoys being back at school.”
”Except teachers! Like me!” Susan struck a pose but almost fell over, and if it wasn’t for her brother reaching out to hold her shoulder in place she might have topped over. Susan laughed and Arthur looked simultaneously annoyed and relieved that she hadn’t fallen. Susan was still eager and moved again, ”C’mon, Artie! Let’s go greet the kids!”
”You should really watch how fast you walk, Susan, or you’re going to turn that fetus into a casserole.”
”Arthur!” Susan laughed at his dark humor, waving over at all the students she saw. When the band stopped playing for a second, Susan waddled up on stage with Arthur’s help and grabbed the microphone, smiling out over at the rest of the student body.
”Hey! I’m glad you could all make it back. We’ve put together a concert for you—I know, I know it’s mandatory to come, but really! This gives you a great way to reunite! And keep in mind that classes start up again tomorrow—so don’t party too hard! For now, please enjoy the music and refreshments at the table over by the stage. The performers will step down occasionally to mingle among you guys, too, so don’t miss them too hard! Well, cheerio!”
When she put the microphone down, Arthur offered Susan his arm to get down the stairs. Susan’s boyfriend (or were they engaged… Arthur couldn’t quite tell) was back overseas. Which meant that Susan was essentially by herself here, and the further she got into her pregnancy, the more help she needed to get places. Susan was tiny to begin with, and her sense of balance was completely off.
Susan descended the stairs and let go of her brother’s arm, stopping in front of some other teachers.
Monika Addams and Coach Fields were both friendly faces, waving towards them. Ms. Addams had her eye out for her boyfriend, who she’d agreed to meet here.
”Hey, Susan!” Coach Fields said, and Susan smiled at him, her blue eyes taking in the wide collection of students gathered at the concert. The band started up again.
