“Oh, Lucy, I should have expected to see you in here! I don’t know why i’m even surprised anymore.” Susan walked into room 205 in the suspension building, it empty except for one other individual. Lucy Araujo was sitting right in the front row, a smile on his face and a pencil perched on his nose. Susan couldn’t help but smile as she walked towards the front desk, her heels clicking on the ground as she did so. Susan was wearing a white button down shirt tucked into a pastel orange skirt that reached her knees. Her outfit was baggy enough that she felt comfortable in. She was pregnant, but not quite to the point of showing yet. After her spat (well, it was Arthur’s bone to pick, mostly) with Kasper, things had settled down for Susan and she was more excited than ever to have a child. She hadn’t told any of her students (with the exception of Arthur, and perhaps Isabella if Maddie had told her) that she was expecting.
Susan’s shoes matched the skirt, and slung over a shoulder was her white purse and held in her arms were papers she had to grade while she was here.
“It’s because I love to see you so much, Ms. Summers! You put a smile on my face every day!” Lucy said, his pencil clattering to his wooden desk as he clasped his hands together, leaning on them like a child about to go to sleep.
“I wish you’d come to see me in my office hours, instead of here. Mr. Araujo, this place is for troublemakers.”
“Trouble always finds me! Even when I avoid it!" Lucy said brightly and almost proudly, his brown eyes wide and eager. He was just itching to take out his camera, but he knew even the lenient Susan wouldn’t like that. Susan was probably one of the best teachers to be stuck in suspension with, since she was so chill. Susan didn’t look like she agreed with his joke and settled herself down at the teacher’s desk, putting the stack of research papers in front of her, pulling her long black hair behind her into a ponytail.
Lucy was wearing a black tee shirt, the short sleeves of which emphasized his arm muscles. His skin was bronze and darkened by hair as it usually was, and on his legs were a pair of grey jeans and knock-off converse sneakers. Lucy was still grinning his teeth over at Susan, who looked up from her papers with a bemused expression.
“Did you bring any homework to do, Mr. Araujo? This will be a long two hours if you forgot. Remember, no electronics allowed.”
Lucy grabbed a notebook from under his desk and held it up to Susan. He then grabbed his pencil and started doodling in the notebook. Susan smiled as she looked back down at her papers, grabbing the first one off the pile as she waited for the rest of the students to pile in.
Unlike Lucy, most of the other students weren’t as enthusiastic about attending such a long punishment. But Metric took its discipline very seriously. Metric was, after all, a specialty school for honing the arts.
