Background || Alfred graduated college and immediately thereafter he applied for and got a teaching position at Metric Academy. Not only was he well liked because he was good at what he did (teaching math) he was also a very talented singer and thus he was the perfect candidate because he could also help the schools singers.
Alfred moved in when he was about 25, and has been in the school ever since.
Alfred and his family have a slightly strained relationship. He and his parents got into a particularly nasty argument before he moved out and, because he and his entire family is too stubborn, no one has tried to contact anyone for years since.
…except, of course, his cousin Petunia. Growing up Alfred never had a really great relationship with Petunia. Their families were neighbors, and as they were the same age Alfred always wound up playing with Petunia. It was more like a destruction adventure with Petunia in the lead and Alfred trying to get her to stop before she hurt herself or someone else. Despite the constant annoyance Alfred seemed to exhibit he couldn’t leave Petunia all alone to mess around, so he always wound up letting himself be dragged along to make sure she was safe. Come high school, Petunia branched out and made other friends and Alfred didn’t have to babysit her anymore. When Alfred went off to college he didn’t hear from Petunia for years. Not after he graduated and went to Metric, either.
About two years ago, Alfred opened his door to see a 6 year old girl shivering in the rain standing outside of his door, clutching a backpack in one hand and a crumpled letter in the other. She asked if he was Alfred, he said he was, and then she handed him the letter in her hands and scampered inside of the apartment.
Before he could lecture her for getting his carpet wet, Alfred had to read the letter, addressed to him from Petunia.
Petunia’s husband had died, and she couldn’t stand to be around her daughter anymore. She was expecting Alfred to raise her until she cooled down. Pissed off, Alfred tried to locate Petunia’s number but could not. Her letter had no return address and didn’t include a contact number. He asked Autumn if she knew her mother’s number but she said they didn’t have a phone anymore.
Of course Alfred submitted a police report, but Petunia could not be located. He debated putting her into foster care, but that idea tore Autumn up. She still hoped that her mother would return. So Alfred decided that he would look after her until his childish cousin got her act together.
He still tries desperately to contact her, via the phone book or facebook or anything, but she’s seemed to just vanish off the face of the earth. He hates the idea of letting her get away with abandoning a child, though, and vows that when she does come back he will not just leave her be about it. Still, he can’t turn his back on Autumn, who has taken to calling him ‘uncle Alfred’ in the absence of her mother and now inhabits the second bedroom in Alfred’s apartment. Which is how they live current day and age.

History || Autumn grew up in a rough household. They barely had enough money to function. Petunia, her mother, was a reckless sporadic and wild woman who always got on her father’s nerves. Petunia’s husband was a drunk and the two always argued, usually not when Autumn was around. But the animosity between the two was painfully obvious to her. Still, Autumn loved her parents and they seemed to love her.
When Autumn was about 6, her parents got into a very heated argument and her father left. A few days later, they got the call that he’d died in an accident. Autumn didn’t quite understand but her mother did, and her mother was absolutely torn up about it. Her mother, so distraught about having lost her husband post-fight, grew distant from Autumn. Instead of clinging to the girl, Petunia grew to isolate herself from her.
Autumn wanted attention and thus began to do things around the house to get noticed. Her mother only noticed when Autumn broke the TV they had.
Furious, Petunia slapped her.
After realizing what she’d done, Petunia, convinced she was too unstable to raise Autumn, packed up a bag and then coerced the little girl to get into a car. She drove and drove, trying to cool off. Autumn didn’t know that Petunia actually planned to give Autumn to her cousin for a while.
Petunia parked outside of Metric Academy and quickly scribbled a note, handing it to Autumn. She told her that was going to stay with her ‘uncle Alfred’ for a while, and gave her the number of his apartment. She promised she’d come back soon and wasn’t mad about the TV anymore.
And then she drove off.
